A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Ohaithar.

I finally pulled together another LT Issue after nearly a month. Oh, and what
a long, xp and pk filled month it's been. I elaborate a bit on the PK activity
later in this issue, and, well, the XP achievements speak for themselves.
There are just so many!

Next week is LegendMUD's birthday (well, on the 14th), and to celebrate, the
immortal staff has planned a few events! Check the welcome board for details,
and pay attention to channels, too, where immortals will be advertising their
games. Also!, remember to vote for the Expies at expies.legendmud.org. The
final ballot is up and running, and we'll be accepting votes until 11:59 PM on
February 12. The award ceremony will be held Sunday, February 14 at 7 PM
system time in the OOC Auditorium. Please show up to congratulate and show
support to your fellow players.

And, concerning the 14th..... it's also Valentine's Day! So, send in poems or
love notes to show your special someone some love. They'll be published in the
LT, which will be sent out right after the Expies Ceremony. Who needs to buy
flowers or chocolates when you can write a loving haiku instead?

THE PKILL FRONT

Well, well, well... it seems that like mobkill, PK has been really active over
the past few weeks as well. If I counted right (and goodness, I hope I'm able
to count tally marks correctly), there were 134 battles as of 6pm system time
on February 4 that ended with the death of someone. So, in a month's time,
players participated in well over 150 battles, because I have absolutely no
way of knowing how many fights were started but never finished. That's beyond
amazing. It truly is. I love seeing things thriving on Legend, and it would
seem that PK certainly IS doing that.

Now, for a few statistics! Fawkes was definitely the most successful, with his
45 wins. Seriously, he had 45 wins. The person to follow him up, win-wise, was
Rump, who had 17 wins. However, winning isn't the only deciding factor in who
is active and who is not. Beating Fawkes by a whole 5 battles is Linx, who
participated in at least 52 PK fights. (As said before, the number of battles
could be higher, but unless someone dies, I have no way of knowing!)

Other active PKers (participating in 10 or more battles to the death) include:
Zoroaster (25 battles), Krista (12 battles), LebronJames (27 battles), and
Nero(10 battles). Kudos to you guys. Serious Kudos, like the yummy granola bar
Kudos, not just the praise. After all, who wouldn't enjoy a chocolate covered
granola bar made by the same people who make M&M's?

That's what I thought.

Also in PK news, Natalia (and Haley!) ran a PK tournament of their own, but
they were nice enough to write up some details on that, so I'll let you read
that for yourself!

PK TOURNAMENT FOLLOW-UP

On Sunday, January 17, 2010, a pk tournament was held at 4pm system time. We'd
like to extend a great big thank-you to everyone who attended - you helped
make it a success.

Each participant was given the name of another participant as a target. The
object of this tournament was to kill your target first, then take their
target as your next one. A chaotic game of last man standing.

Round ONE Participants: Linx, Fatimah, Rowane, Jake, Nero, Thanos, Xuvenia,
Gado, Vito, Rump.

[Warzone] Gado killed by Nero.
[Arena]: Vito has been killed by Rowane!
[Arena]: Rump has been killed by Thanos!
[Arena]: Xuvenia has been killed by Linx!
[Arena]: Nero has been killed by Rowane!
[Arena]: Linx has been killed by Rowane!
[Arena]: Jake has been killed by Rowane!
[Arena]: Fatimah has been killed by Thanos!
[Arena]: Thanos has been killed by Rowane!

****Sooooo, Rowane won!

Vito, Linx, Gado, and Nero stuck around to get in two more rounds, both of
which Nero ended up winning.

The next tournament is tentatively set for Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 4pm
system time. Hope to see you there!

A torn, ash-stained page

The mind is a funny thing. If you believe in something hard enough it will
surely come true. Death lingers for me in the shadows, I believe that as
surely as I believe the sun will rise tomorrow.

She's here. I'm going to die. My eyes flick open, an unbearable sense of
foreboding fills my belly.

Stop. Breathe. Listen. Nothing. Body still, my hand shifts beneath my
pillow...searching.

Breathe. Listen. Nothing. Body still, my fingers wrap around the hilt of my
dagger.

Breathe. Listen. Nothing. No wait! There. The slightest shift, a form
hangs dead in the air. To my left, just beyond my vision. I can sense it.

Breathe. Listen. Listen. _Listen._ It makes no sound, but it muffles the
sound of my breathing.

Slowly I turn, my eyes adjusting to the waxing moon's light. There! In the
chair to the right of the window a body is hunched. Glassy eyes shine in the
darkness from a face that is my own.

Breathe Deja! Breathe! My lungs and eyes burn as I return her unblinking
stare.

She's here...and I'm going to die.

Papa Legba has forsaken me and has let my twin sister return to claim the life
she was denied.

Mama Marie!

Then, something catches my eye. The reflected moonlight glints from her neck.
My locket! She has my locket! I notice her long night shirt matches my own and
at once I'm deafened by the rush of blood as I allow myself to take a breath.
The figure in the chair slumps mirroring my own relief.

'Deja!' I hiss, her lips move in sync with mine but no sound comes out.
'Leave! You are not needed.'

I close my eyes, recovering. I can still feel my doppelganger's presence but
when I open my eyes the chair is empty and she is gone.

My sister still waits for me just beyond the gate that separates our worlds.
With every chant I perform, every gris-gris bag I make, every candle I burn
a little bit of her stabbing hatred slips through; a constant reminder that
taints everything thing I do. One day she will come for me and I will die, I
believe that as surely as I believe the sun will rise tomorrow...
