                        Kaige's New Year's Musings&lt;br /&gt;

Here we sit as the calendar flips once again, closing out one year and&lt;br /&gt;
beginning another. It's resolution time, self-evaluation time and for&lt;br /&gt;
many, time to beat yourself up over what didn't get done last year.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I was going to sit down and do a comparison of what I said I wanted to&lt;br /&gt;
accomplish this past year (in Legend terms) and decided that wouldn't&lt;br /&gt;
be as productive as looking at what I wrote and see to keep working on&lt;br /&gt;
and improving on those goals.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It's all about baby steps. As long as there is forward momentum and&lt;br /&gt;
there is a feeling of accomplishment, we're all better off than we&lt;br /&gt;
were before or would have been if nothing had been done.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
While I'll never get as much as I want done (I have way too many&lt;br /&gt;
interests and too many ideas for that ever to be feasible), I do think&lt;br /&gt;
some of the steps that the immortal staff has taken in the past year&lt;br /&gt;
have made positive differences in the LegendMUD community.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
By getting the logs of the Q&amp;amp;A sessions up on the web in a timely&lt;br /&gt;
manner, everyone can see what the current concerns are. By including&lt;br /&gt;
the recent update information in the LTs, everyone can see what&lt;br /&gt;
changes are taking place. By including a space for an RP board in the&lt;br /&gt;
new OOC Coffee Shop, people who are interested in it can connect with&lt;br /&gt;
others. By enforcing rules, while not always the most popular job, the&lt;br /&gt;
atmosphere is much more enjoyable for all. By fixing what are&lt;br /&gt;
nuisances and minor bugs as well as some of the less visible but more&lt;br /&gt;
stability threatening memory bugs, the foundations for future code&lt;br /&gt;
improvements and expansions are strengthened. By updating existing&lt;br /&gt;
areas and featuring each era during the Summer Odyssey, we learn a bit&lt;br /&gt;
more about the world we gather in and find some new depths to explore.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There have been plenty more things along similar lines (unfortunately&lt;br /&gt;
not enough room to list them all) that have helped keep this place&lt;br /&gt;
running smoothly and have helped improve things for everyone who is a&lt;br /&gt;
part of LegendMUD.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Annual Expies are on the horizon and I hope you'll take the time&lt;br /&gt;
to help make them a success by participating in the nomination and&lt;br /&gt;
final balloting processes as well as by joining us for our Eighth&lt;br /&gt;
Anniversary celebrations. The back issues of the LT are a great way to&lt;br /&gt;
refresh the events and changes of the past year.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In addition to thinking about the Expies, the question that I am&lt;br /&gt;
tossing out to everyone this year, is not what are your resolutions,&lt;br /&gt;
but what steps forward are you going to take this coming year?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

     Chapter 1: finding the litle boogers&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
     Finding gnomes is the hardest part of beeing Sworn Protektris of dee&lt;br /&gt;
Lehensfrows Shoos. The gnome yoo dont see may bee the won that gits yoor&lt;br /&gt;
shoo. Gnomes ar sneeky. Tha like too hide and preetend too bee horzes or&lt;br /&gt;
bunnies or tables or peepel. I am not so klever as sum peepel but I am very&lt;br /&gt;
very very good at spoting sneeky gnomes. I allways no, heer is how.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
     1. Gnomes ware pointy red hats. Sumtimes thay have beerds. Sumtimes thay&lt;br /&gt;
are sneeky and don't.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
     2. Gnomes allways hav beedy red iz. This is the best wa to spot them.&lt;br /&gt;
Sumtimes yoo have to look very hard or you cant see the iz when the gnome is&lt;br /&gt;
preetending too bee furnachur.&lt;br /&gt;

                        The Fury of a Friend&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Wandering the world, I decided to that it was time to visit the familiar town&lt;br /&gt;
of Tara. It'd been a while since I'd last been to the Celtic lands. I&lt;br /&gt;
wondered if Tika is still the same grouchy woman she was, or had she softened&lt;br /&gt;
up in her old age? Memories of the past came back as I made my way back&lt;br /&gt;
towards the familiar cross-roads, day-dreaming all the way. Who will be&lt;br /&gt;
there, I wonder? So many friends gone now, I wonder if I'll know anyone still&lt;br /&gt;
around...oh well, I'll just have to wait and see.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Coming to the cross-roads south of Tara, I started hearing shouts of what&lt;br /&gt;
sounded like a fight in the making. That's not unusual of the area I thought&lt;br /&gt;
to myself, but that sounded a lot like a very familiar voice.  Hearing, &amp;quot;Just&lt;br /&gt;
end it, Demonspawn -- I wish to be with my love forever&amp;quot; I knew it was not&lt;br /&gt;
just a little spat taking place, it was the voice of my closest friend and&lt;br /&gt;
mentor. It was the voice of Judah! Turning north at the crossroads, I started&lt;br /&gt;
to run towards Tara.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Stopping at the gates of the town to catch my breath and listen for where my&lt;br /&gt;
friend may be, I heard Judah say, &amp;quot;Even in death I will be far better off then&lt;br /&gt;
you will ever be demonspawn!&amp;quot; &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;You think so do you? You followers of Aslan can be so naive at times,&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
replied the voice with a hint of mockery. &amp;quot;But if you wish it to end this way&lt;br /&gt;
so be it. Although my master and myself had much fun toying with you and your&lt;br /&gt;
followers, pity you would fold after all this time Judah.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;Enough with your games Soze, I do not fear death. Death for me here brings&lt;br /&gt;
me eternal happiness with my love Haley.&amp;quot; &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;So be it, Judite.&amp;quot; Soze replied with a cackle, and calling down lightning to&lt;br /&gt;
strike Judah -- the fight had begun!&lt;br /&gt;

Seeing the storm clouds and lightning strike around the Tara Inn I knew where&lt;br /&gt;
they were, after all this was not a cloudy day. I started to sprint again to&lt;br /&gt;
try and save my friend from the demon spawn, Soze. Coming around a corner I&lt;br /&gt;
watched as my old mentor fell to the ground. &amp;quot;NO!&amp;quot; Not even realizing I&lt;br /&gt;
screamed I bent down to see if there was a chance to save my friend. With a&lt;br /&gt;
flash of light, Soze had done something and we were all at the base of some&lt;br /&gt;
cliff. &amp;quot;No need to be near a healer.&amp;quot; Soze's hateful laugh echoed off the&lt;br /&gt;
valley walls.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Looking into my eyes at the brink of death Judah whispered, &amp;quot;d-do not....let&lt;br /&gt;
hate...consume you...f-friend.&amp;quot; The cold look of death filled Judah's eyes. I&lt;br /&gt;
wept.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hearing the soft cackle of a spineless pathetic worm of a man behind me, I&lt;br /&gt;
could not help but let the rage consume me. &amp;quot;You will die demonspawn!&amp;quot; With&lt;br /&gt;
sudden rage I didn't even realize was there I unleashed fury on this....this&lt;br /&gt;
thing that appears as a man, not stopping until I was sure he was dead. For&lt;br /&gt;
some reason I was not surprised to see his master send his dilapidated body&lt;br /&gt;
back to continue his business as a pawn for the underworld. Without a&lt;br /&gt;
thought, I attacked him again, sending him back to the underworld where he&lt;br /&gt;
belongs.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The cold voice came back again. &amp;quot;Go ahead Vagabond -- you're doing far better&lt;br /&gt;
work for my master then even I was doing. My master just loves death.  Kill&lt;br /&gt;
me again -- perhaps we'll be partners working for my master,&amp;quot; Soze&lt;br /&gt;
snickered.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;I'll never work for that coward.&amp;quot; I said. &amp;quot;You go back now to hide under the&lt;br /&gt;
heel of your master's boot. Tell him that all like him have made a new enemy&lt;br /&gt;
today. Tell him that those working for the underworld will be hunted and&lt;br /&gt;
destroyed. Go now and beware for when you see me in the future you'll not&lt;br /&gt;
longer see the once care free 'Silver-haired Guitarist'. You'll now see....&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
a vengeance driven vagabond&lt;br /&gt;
A hunter of evil waits here for his next challenge.&lt;br /&gt;

He was happy, was being the key word -- all things must end. Years of&lt;br /&gt;
struggling brought him to Devi, pain and frustration all giving way for her,&lt;br /&gt;
letting in love, something he had never before experienced. He was bred,&lt;br /&gt;
born, raised, and trained to kill, it was his life, it was his heritage, it&lt;br /&gt;
was his legacy.  That destiny pulled them apart, tore him apart.  Devi left&lt;br /&gt;
him not long after they had met, leaving him lost and empty inside.&lt;br /&gt;

The spiral began, insanity slowly taking, its grip on him tearing at his mind&lt;br /&gt;
