The Expies Final Ballot was sent out earlier this week. Votes are due in&lt;br /&gt;
by 11:59 pm on February 12, 2003. We need you to cast yours for this&lt;br /&gt;
year's Expies to be successful! Even if you cast a vote for a single&lt;br /&gt;
category, we want it!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Thanks to the many of you that have sent in your votes already - I&lt;br /&gt;
appreciate not having to tally ALL the ballots the last night! As of this&lt;br /&gt;
writing, 35 ballots have come in. For comparison, we received 75 last&lt;br /&gt;
year. Will we beat last year's total or fall short?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You can make my job tallying easier if you do the following three things:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Mark your vote with an X. Alternately, you can delete all other entries&lt;br /&gt;
   except the one you are voting for, as long as you keep the category&lt;br /&gt;
   header.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
2. Ties cannot be counted - you must make one choice or risk that category&lt;br /&gt;
   getting skipped over entirely.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
3. Be sure the character listed on your ballot is unarchived for the&lt;br /&gt;
   entire duration of the voting period. Ballots are not always tallied&lt;br /&gt;
   First In/First Counted - even if yours was sent the first day, it may&lt;br /&gt;
   not get counted until the last.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Ballots do get reviewed upon first receipt to determine if there were any&lt;br /&gt;
problems - some ballots have come across empty or garbled. If this is the&lt;br /&gt;
case, you will receive an email giving you the opportunity to resend. All&lt;br /&gt;
the more reason to get your votes in sooner rather than later! You may&lt;br /&gt;
also receive an email in the event the ballot appears to have been cut off&lt;br /&gt;
- some mailers can't handle long messages and may eat the lower portions&lt;br /&gt;
of your email.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If you need a ballot, you can request one via the web at&lt;br /&gt;

for you, let us know, and ask LadyAce or myself for a ballot. If you send&lt;br /&gt;
an email to expie@legendmud.org requesting a ballot, please make it clear&lt;br /&gt;
you need us to send you a ballot or we'll think you cast votes and it came&lt;br /&gt;
across empty.&lt;br /&gt;

The awards ceremony will be Friday, February 14th (time to be determined).&lt;br /&gt;

If you plan to participate in this year's Expies in any way, whether you&lt;br /&gt;
expect to win an Expie or are just nominating and voting, it is&lt;br /&gt;
imperative that you read this.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Due to activities in the past couple of years and complaints regarding&lt;br /&gt;
such, we are instituting a new policy. We have always discouraged&lt;br /&gt;
campaigning and bribery to win an Expie. It is not within the spirit of&lt;br /&gt;
the Expies. Unfortunately, despite such discouragement, it still happens.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Starting this year, we will begin disqualifying nominees that participate&lt;br /&gt;
in campaigns and utilize bribery to win nominations and votes.&lt;br /&gt;
Campaigning just to disqualify someone will result in disciplinary action&lt;br /&gt;
against the campaigner.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What constitutes campaigning? Illusions, notes, board posts, repeated&lt;br /&gt;
comments on channels, and other like activity in the game encouraging&lt;br /&gt;
people to nominate/vote a certain way. This includes campaigning both for&lt;br /&gt;
and against something/someone.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What constitutes bribery? The offering of XP, coupons, strings,&lt;br /&gt;
equipment, quest help, money, etc to secure someone's nomination or vote.&lt;br /&gt;
Please report any activities of such, preferably with logs.&lt;br /&gt;

I saw Fiammetta around the Stag so I thought to pay her a visit. I&lt;br /&gt;
initiated combat the usual way but the turnout was very unusual. As the&lt;br /&gt;
first few rounds took place I ended up standing outside the Hermetics&lt;br /&gt;
hall. Wondering what she was doing here I knocked and challenged anybody&lt;br /&gt;
willing to come out and fight. To my surprise Larnoc and Fiammetta came&lt;br /&gt;
out to my reply. After a few rounds, I noticed the left the door agape,&lt;br /&gt;
taking no more time than I needed to make my decision I went in and hid.&lt;br /&gt;
Unknowingly they came back to their hall, where once again they met me.&lt;br /&gt;
Soon I realized that I could not match up to Larnoc in my hurt state so I&lt;br /&gt;
suffered a minor set-back in my attack.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In my search for purpose I strongly lean towards the Hermetics. Their&lt;br /&gt;
youthful vitality and energetic comrodary are an inspiration to a fighter&lt;br /&gt;
like me.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I will test them further...&lt;br /&gt;

The Grendels have maintained their presence over the past two weeks with&lt;br /&gt;
the Panuccis and the Infernals close behind. The IRA has become more&lt;br /&gt;
active again recently and the Grand Coven and Knights have been out on the&lt;br /&gt;
field of battle. The Syndicate, Hermetics and the School of Hard Knocks&lt;br /&gt;
had a few members active over the past two weeks, but not showing a strong&lt;br /&gt;
presence.&lt;br /&gt;

Two weeks ago there were 63 pkill-related deaths involving 42 different&lt;br /&gt;
characters. Of those 42 characters, 18 of them were accept all at the&lt;br /&gt;
time. This past week there were 71 pkill-related deaths involving 41&lt;br /&gt;
different characters. Of those 41 characters, 27 of them were accept all&lt;br /&gt;
at the time. So come on, let's get YOUR name up in lights! We can't report&lt;br /&gt;
on it if you don't tell us about it!&lt;br /&gt;

She sat quietly just staring down at the handful of coins in her hands. A&lt;br /&gt;
gift he had said. She's gotten lots of 'gifts' before, but only in&lt;br /&gt;
exchange for a favour. A gift. A gift because he cared. Another novel&lt;br /&gt;
concept to her. Caring. What did that mean? Just exactly how did one care?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The gold coins in her hand gleamed in the fading sunlight. She'd never&lt;br /&gt;
felt badly about taking money from a man before, what made this one so&lt;br /&gt;
different? Maybe it was his naivety. He was so shy and bashful and..&lt;br /&gt;
sweet. He didn't treat her the way the others did. He almost seemed to..&lt;br /&gt;
worship her. It wasn't like she hadn't seen it before, a naive young man&lt;br /&gt;
developing a crush on her. She's just told them the truth, she was no good&lt;br /&gt;
for them, go find someone else. She's tried to tell this one, but, the&lt;br /&gt;
look of hurt on his face had done something to her. She frowned to&lt;br /&gt;
herself. It had hurt her to hurt him.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'Bah!' Briarwen said callously to herself as she stood and dropped the&lt;br /&gt;
handful of coins into her money pouch. 'Your going soft! He's just a kid.&lt;br /&gt;
No different then all the rest, you'll see, and then where will you be,&lt;br /&gt;
hmm?' she continued to lecture herself, 'Sure, he's all puppy dog eyes and&lt;br /&gt;
sweetness now, but just wait, he'll get tired of sharing you.'&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Briarwen sighed heavily as she turned towards the inn, she could already&lt;br /&gt;
hear the voices of the half-drunk men. Yes, no doubt about it, business&lt;br /&gt;
would be good tonight. As she pulled open the door to enter, she had to&lt;br /&gt;
admit to herself, she couldn't wait to see Jakov again.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

     The Adventures of TheThing (embellished) b Part IV (Transformation)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
TheThing had been taught by Sir DragonReborn that the Inferno would be a&lt;br /&gt;
good place for him to hide and work on this XP problem. Not many knew the&lt;br /&gt;
paths through the Inferno safely, and if TheThing spent a lot of time&lt;br /&gt;
there, he might just be able to prevent his own permanent death. It would&lt;br /&gt;
be a slow and painful struggle, but the quiet of the Inferno could bring&lt;br /&gt;
him some peace of mind as well. And so it was for TheThing, ignoring the&lt;br /&gt;
plight of those he called friend, he began to be more and more selfish,&lt;br /&gt;
thinking only of the goal he had set. He was eventually dropped by Sir&lt;br /&gt;
DragonReborn as a squire, and then felt his world had ended.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It was around this time that Minako found him. Minako was the bride of Sir&lt;br /&gt;
West, one of TheThing's mentors in the Knights of Legend. TT had not&lt;br /&gt;
contacted her in a very long time, as he had been smitten with her as&lt;br /&gt;
well. West just got the nerve up before TT did, and speaking with her&lt;br /&gt;
served to remind him of yet another failure, a missed opportunity. But&lt;br /&gt;
Minako was not one to be pushed aside. She came to TheThing in the Inferno&lt;br /&gt;
and began to heal him as he wandered. Not speaking much, they walked&lt;br /&gt;
together through the Inferno and TheThing hacked and slashed his way&lt;br /&gt;
through all that he met. Minako simply walked along with him and used her&lt;br /&gt;
surgeon skills when needed, keeping TheThing alive and offering a kind&lt;br /&gt;
word now and again. Somehow, TheThing began to heal in other ways as well,&lt;br /&gt;
and the silence was broken. Minako explained that TheThing had to give up&lt;br /&gt;
his pride before he could regain it. No longer could he use public&lt;br /&gt;
channels and postings on public boards as his personal arena for whining.&lt;br /&gt;
It was the whining that made him a target.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
*CRACK* It was as if a bolt of lightening had opened the eyes of TheThing!&lt;br /&gt;
Minako and TheThing began to venture out of the Inferno, seeking other&lt;br /&gt;
grounds upon which to walk in search of experience. Sir West had ventured&lt;br /&gt;
off in a lone quest, having left Minako alone in Legend, so she had&lt;br /&gt;
nothing but time on her hands. TheThing and Minako were virtually&lt;br /&gt;
inseparable, running almost day and night towards his goal. And then&lt;br /&gt;
TheThing learned of Sibwarra. A new load of guilt thrust itself upon&lt;br /&gt;
TheThing. Not only had he destroyed his own life, but he had brought&lt;br /&gt;
another life to be through his actions. But what kind of life did Sibwarra&lt;br /&gt;
have?  He always felt like part of him was missing, he constantly was in&lt;br /&gt;
service to others, with no direction of his own. TheThing vowed to work&lt;br /&gt;
even harder towards his goal. If he could just get out of PK he could&lt;br /&gt;
start to give his own service to others, lifting some of the burden from&lt;br /&gt;
Sibwarra, perhaps freeing the druid/mage to walk his own path.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
When Minako had to go on her own quest, TheThing turned to the fiancee of&lt;br /&gt;
Sibwarra, Amecia, to aid him in his quest. Amecia agreed, and she showed&lt;br /&gt;
him new ways to earn XP, took him on many adventures and used her own&lt;br /&gt;
surgeon skills to heal him all the while.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
