Time sure does seem to fly lately! I'm glad to see the RP articles coming
in on a regular basis. Please remember we have a submission page that's
listed in the WEBSITES command and that it's much easier to work with
files that are in plain text and don't have fancy curly quotes or other
strange characters that don't come out right in the finished issues.

Also, glad to see some PK write ups coming in! Awesome. Everyone should
feel welcome to send in write ups of PK or RP events they witness. They
should be from your point of view, don't try to get in someone else's
head! The pieces that recount actual events are definitely more fun to
read than just the old dry weekly summary I make up off the top of my
head with what I remember and what I know of the clan.

Speaking of, what people know about the clans...

If you're a GM... have you taken a moment or two to fill out the
information that will help other players learn more about your clan and
help them decide if they wish to join or how they can roleplay and
interact with your members? Check CLANS <your clan keyword> and make sure
you have helpful information in there for everyone to see. Also check out
the clans page (http://www.legendmud.org/Community/comm_clans.shtml) and
make sure your clan's listing looks good and makes sense!

We're also having a lot of clans with upcoming anniversary's here too!
Please take the time to write up something for the LT and consider
sponsoring an event. The clan system is a way for characters to gain a
sense of identity and comaraderie with other players in the world. But we
can only provide you all with tools to help, you have to use those tools
to make your group a success.

Anyway, off to work on my Expies Nomination ballot before LadyAce and
Cheyla force me to sit down and fill it out in front of them!

If you plan to participate in this year's Expies in any way, whether you
expect to win an Expie or are just nominating and voting, it is
imperative that you read this.

Due to activities in the past couple of years and complaints regarding
such, we are instituting a new policy. We have always discouraged
campaigning and bribery to win an Expie. It is not within the spirit of
the Expies. Unfortunately, despite such discouragement, it still happens.

Starting this year, we will begin disqualifying nominees that participate
in campaigns and utilize bribery to win nominations and votes.
Campaigning just to disqualify someone will result in disciplinary action
against the campaigner.

What constitutes campaigning? Illusions, notes, board posts, repeated
comments on channels, and other like activity in the game encouraging
people to nominate/vote a certain way. This includes campaigning both for
and against something/someone.

What constitutes bribery? The offering of XP, coupons, strings,
equipment, quest help, money, etc to secure someone's nomination or vote.
Please report any activities of such, preferably with logs.

REAL LIFE BRUSHFIRE ALERT

This was posted on the news board and has been copied here so that people
can know what's up with Stygian's player and send along their good thoughts.

My city is being attacked by bushfires. So far at
least 50 houses are burning/burnt. At least one is
dead, hospitals are full of patients for smoke
inhalation, and falling off roofs. Surburbs around
mine are on high alert. Water bombing is hampered
by bad weather.

So far my house is fine, but just down the road
from my Aunt and Grandfather there are houses
burning. The only way they can tell how many there
are is by counting the drive ways. The government
has declared a state of alert.

NOTE: this IS real. It IS happening now!

For the past few weeks the sky has been clouded
with the smoke. In some areas it is as black as
night during the day because the smoke is so
thick.

For all those interested, the city is Canberra,
Australia (not colorado). If I fail to log on for
a long time, chances are my house has burnt. (by
long i mean good few weeks, long enough for my
chars to die into the horrible oblivion of not
playing enough.)

Hoping To Do Some Trivias

I have been wanting to run some trivia's for the
hecks of it... but am short on prizes to give
out...

Currently, I have some immortal dolls, and a few
oddball strings or atleast I think they are
strings... that I could put as prizes...

If anyone would like to donate any form of

Where there's Pizza, there's Fire?

Master of the Pizzaboys, Richard 'the night stalker' Ramirez, has been
seen giving the little girl Dinah a thorough beating. His reasons had
something to do with a burning car and a ruined paintwork. However,
seeing as she was almost out of fire-oil, Dinah must have seen fit to run
and hide. Whether it was pity or a heavy behind that caused Ramirez to
give up pursuit is hard to tell.

Neither pity nor lead was on Dinah's mind though. And after hours of
devious planning, she caught the pizzaman delivering pizzas to an eunuch
in Greece. Nothing stops a pizzaboy, not rain nor snow or even dogfish.
Being ripped half to shreds by sharks, Ramirez stood no chance against
the fires of a 7 year old. And thus, his burned corpse was to be found
abandoned in a Greek underwater palace.

Attempting to revenge his fellow crusader-of-better-pizzas-to-the-people,
Azeem faced no better fate, as Dinah most cowardly had found the broad
back of Lord Marcel Alexander to hide behind. Between the two of them
the poor pizzaboy had no chance.

The Coven's Long-lasting Memory

An ethereal archer, in the employ of Maleficia, celebrated a victory over
Lawrence. Maleficia growled malevolently and sneered, 'I was expecting
more of a fight from a Knight...'

A few moments later, Geber was killed by Maleficia! Looking impressed,
Sir Lawrence whistled at Maleficia and mades a note to get some of
whatever brand of coffee that witch was drinking.

Maleficia announced to those nearby, 'Anyway... in explanation for those
still confused... The Grand Coven never forgets their true purpose...'

A voice called out, 'Hot 'n wild orgys?' while Sir Lawrence applauded
Maleficia for taking the time to bother explaining at all.

Ignoring the catcalls, Maleficia continued, 'And it has recently been
pointed out to me that pillow fights in the clan hall is not what we are
about, its the random slaughter of the Knightly Order.' Sir Lawrence
pondered her statements a moment and made a few notes.

Maleficia chuckled, 'Both equally as fun, I suppose.. but I do miss the
pillow fights...'

A jeering voice called out, 'Well whichever one you guys choose, I totally
am behind you, watching, from that dark corner.'

Suddenly bold and seeking to understand the situation, Silk asked
Maleficia, 'Any particular reason? Or just traditional enmity?'

Maleficia replied, 'Just tradition.. a certain sister a great many moons
ago had quite the quarrel with the Knights and I suppose its just about
making sure revenge is served regularly.' Sir Lawrence winced in sympathy
with Maleficia as Silk nodded in understanding.

Silk said thoughtfully, 'Makes sense... better than some gloopy little
voice always talking in your head, I suppose.'

Maleficia finished, 'Though I am a new recruit so I mostly just do it for
the sport... and it keeps Malia snickering...'

The Grendels once again had the most members out active in the field this
week. The members of the Hermetic Order seem to be emboldened by their
longevity and sent several members to uphold the long-standing reputation
of the clan. The Panuccis members saw some action this week as well as
fielded accusations that their sausage pizzas were made with rat tails.
Their delivery boy, publicly denied this, but later when offered fresh
rat tails, he admitted, 'No thanks! I've got plenty.' The members of the
Syndicate were also out defending their turf, and the Grand Coven were
seen avenging old slights. The Infernals seem to be depressed and moping
without the recent support of their leader, Barabas. The School of Hard
Knocks seems to have a high truancy rate among both students and faculty
and the IRA seems to have completely vanished from the PK radar.

This past week there were 87 pkill-related deaths involving 44 different
characters. Of those 44 characters, 27 of them were accept all at the
time. So come on, let's get YOUR name up in lights! We can't report on it

A Revealing Journal Entry

A bit of paper obviously fallen from a journal was turned in, smelling of
dried flowers. The words upon it are written in a delicate script:

We have been friends for a time now but I find myself
wondering if it is becoming something more. I daren't
hold out any hope that it does - not with MY track
record!

But I do wonder... whose pictures shall end up within
this locket?

A Letter Misplaced

A carrier gull was brought into the editor's office this morning, looking
rather wet and straggled. The letter tied to its foot was soaked and the
ink blotted, making the recipient's address impossible to read.

I don't know quite where to start on this venture; to
warn a child against the evils of the adult world.
Most parents worry that their sons will grow up and
run off with some tramp who wants their money, or
fall in with a bad crowd. I wish my worries were
that, well, mundane.

There are so many things I want to tell you about,
and so little time (not to mention the fact that I
only have one crumbled sheet of paper and no
letter-writing experience whatsoever). Yesterday you
were just a baby -- before I know it you will be a
young man, and I, I will also be a young man,
scarcely older than you. And even as you are an elf
like myself, one day you will grow old -- and I,
well, I will still be young.

A blessing, to be forever young? No. A curse, that I
should have so much in common with those whom I hunt
to make the world a safer place for children such as
yourself. A world where a young boy can walk down a
dark city street and not fear for his life and soul,
where predators do not lurk in the shadows of old
buildings, pretending that they are a superior race
to man (or elf).

I want to live a normal life. I want to have a house
and raise you myself like an ordinary man would raise
his son. It will never be that way. Some day I hope
that you will understand that even as I am a rare
guest in your life, you hold a very important place
in my heart. You are blood of my blood, and to me,
blood is everything. Some day you will understand.
Some day you may even forgive me.

The Adventures of TheThing (embellished) - Part II (Growth?)

DeathWalker and his band of misfits began helping TheThing build himself
up to be someone who was respected and feared. They took him on many
adventures, across many lands, and yes, traveling through time on a
somewhat regular basis. Having begun their journey in Ancient Celtic
Ireland, they taught him fighting skills like bash, head butt, choke,
elbow, kick, and his favorite -- warcry. Finally, TheThing began to feel
more like himself, rushing at his opponents and screaming his trademark
warcry 'It's Clobberin' Time!!!'

The time came for DeathWalker to reveal his master plan to TheThing, but
before they could begin, TT had to become player kill enabled. Being in
the 'PK arena' meant that TheThing could walk up to virtually anyone and
just start bashing them around. It also meant that he would be open to
attack himself. The plan was to have TT join the DE clan and begin
destroying it from within. Attacking clan members and blaming other clan
members, an internal civil war was to begin, tearing DE apart at the
seams. At that point, High Times would begin killing off DE one at a time,
permanently wiping them from Legend, never to be seen again.

It was around this time, however, that DeathWalker DawnTreader had himself
been permanently killed. TheThing had begun going around attacking people,
killing and being killed (more of the latter than the former). Some vague
relative of DeathWalker's, Onkyo, contacted TheThing, having been brought
herself into Legend recently, she needed help to avenge DeathWalker's
death and grow to destroy DE herself. TheThing and Onkyo were seen
together almost constantly. Rushing through Onkyo's development, running
from attacks on TT, and working towards vengeance and victory.

Not being pleased with what he had become, TheThing divorced himself from
Onkyo and her mission, and sought higher ground. He contacted the Knights
of Legend, sworn enemies of DE and pillars of justice, in an attempt to
join their clan. TheThing was taken in as an apprentice, but soon
discovered that the Knights did not have time to train him as a better
PKiller, nor did they have the ability or desire to protect him from those
that would have him die. Not only that, but now that he had become an
apprentice to the Knights, TheThing had a new 'target painted on his
back.' It seems there were many other forces of darkness besides the Dark
Enforcers that would be more than glad to see TheThing dead, and the
downfall of the Knights as well.

TheThing decided to begin a new personal quest. It was time for him to
leave the PK arena. Maybe if TT could get back a little of his self
esteem, his pride and honor, he could get back to being himself. But this
new quest seemed to be more impossible than his first and his second
combined. For as much work as TheThing had put into becoming this killing
machine, the work involved in leaving the PK arena seemed at least double.
The requirement for quitting was to immasse huge amounts of experience
(XP), which seemed too far out of reach for someone in as much debt as
TheThing. He had died so many times, that he was quite close to a
permanent death of his own, so he sought the assistance of the Gods.
