There are just about three full weeks left in the Medieval era. How're&lt;br /&gt;
your adventures going? Have you done all the things that were so popular&lt;br /&gt;
to do in the medieval age -- discovered new lands? plundred new sources&lt;br /&gt;
of riches? tamed the unknown wilderness? strengthened trade routes and&lt;br /&gt;
business partnerships? engaged in any blood fueds to uphold your honor?&lt;br /&gt;
engaged in a bit of piracy or smuggling?&lt;br /&gt;

No? What are you waiting for!? There are nearly 2000 rooms (and all that&lt;br /&gt;
comes with them) in the medieval era just waiting to be explored. How&lt;br /&gt;

Thank you to everyone who participated in the recent survey regarding&lt;br /&gt;
prize machine items! Your responses were very helpful in guiding the next&lt;br /&gt;
directions for the prize machine. Many changes will be making their way&lt;br /&gt;
into the OOC Arcade, so watch the weekly area update postings for all the&lt;br /&gt;
latest news. You can see the results for yourself in one of two ways:&lt;br /&gt;

The &amp;quot;leading gripes&amp;quot; were pretty much what I suspected -- and it's great&lt;br /&gt;
to get confirmation and concretization of my vague sense of the situation&lt;br /&gt;
-- but I also think it will take some time to address them. I hope you&lt;br /&gt;
will see great progress, and perhaps the results of future surveys will&lt;br /&gt;
reflect that. In a more immediate sense, it was particularly interesting&lt;br /&gt;
for me to see how varied opinions are on the proposed changes, and to&lt;br /&gt;
observe how the &amp;quot;hopes&amp;quot; versus &amp;quot;expectations&amp;quot; were split. In particular,&lt;br /&gt;
I found it interesting that for a large proportion of people, the hope&lt;br /&gt;
was &amp;quot;permanent eq&amp;quot; and the expectation was &amp;quot;something to sell&amp;quot;.&lt;br /&gt;
Personally, my goal with the machine has been more equally distributed&lt;br /&gt;
between &amp;quot;permanent eq&amp;quot;, &amp;quot;temporary string&amp;quot;, and &amp;quot;gift&amp;quot;, with &amp;quot;something&lt;br /&gt;
to sell&amp;quot; coming distinctly after that.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Permanent items are definitely the highest standard that the machine&lt;br /&gt;
could be held to, but I hope that with the changes which go in over the&lt;br /&gt;
next month and which will be continued into the future, the machine will&lt;br /&gt;
rise closer to meeting what people want from it. You can help! Your ideas&lt;br /&gt;
and feedback will help to make the machine even better, so keep them&lt;br /&gt;
coming!&lt;br /&gt;

On to...the plans for the future!&lt;br /&gt;

My current thought is to migrate to a 3-machine system. The first is a&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;general use&amp;quot; machine with a mix of IC and OOC items and which allows&lt;br /&gt;
steering towards the desired item, with a random element combining with&lt;br /&gt;
the steering to determine whether you &amp;quot;win&amp;quot; what you aimed for or not.&lt;br /&gt;
The second is a &amp;quot;direct choice&amp;quot; machine with themed items types which&lt;br /&gt;
steer towards the OOC/toy style. The third is a &amp;quot;character or&lt;br /&gt;
area-themed&amp;quot; machine which is purely randomized. The first and third&lt;br /&gt;
machines will also eventually include protections against item&lt;br /&gt;
duplication. As you can see, this is a fair number of changes -- so it&lt;br /&gt;
will take some time to implement. These changes should make their way&lt;br /&gt;
into the game over the course of several weeks. I hope to keep a pace of&lt;br /&gt;
one revision of some kind per week, starting with the changes that went&lt;br /&gt;
in on this past Friday. As always, your ideas for themes and types are&lt;br /&gt;
welcome!&lt;br /&gt;

The new machine in the OOC is currently producing t-shirts and souvenirs,&lt;br /&gt;
and works by putting your token into a particular slot corresponding to a&lt;br /&gt;
certain item. This machine will change on a monthly basis to a different&lt;br /&gt;
theme -- and the next theme is buttons and badges. This could be an&lt;br /&gt;
emblem, a button with a slogan, a medal -- anything in the &amp;quot;badge&amp;quot; style&lt;br /&gt;
of decorative expression. The best ideas will go into the machine and the&lt;br /&gt;
originators will be rewarded with BOTH a token to try the machine with&lt;br /&gt;
and a restringable copy of their idea.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So fire up your creativity and send your thoughts in over the idea&lt;br /&gt;
channel! Mark them &amp;quot;contest entry&amp;quot; to insure that I realize you mean them&lt;br /&gt;

The following poem was found tucked in among the various correspondences&lt;br /&gt;
in our in box this week. There was much argument around the water cooler&lt;br /&gt;
about the mention of the notorious LegendDB and concerning the long-term&lt;br /&gt;
benefits and usefulness and validity of the information found there,&lt;br /&gt;
considering the site is not endorsed, supported or recommended by the&lt;br /&gt;
immortal staff of LegendMUD. However, the editor, having a soft-spot for&lt;br /&gt;
LegendMUD, declared it could be printed as received as long as it had a&lt;br /&gt;
disclaimer, stating that neither the Legendary Times nor the immortals&lt;br /&gt;
were responsible for any problems encountered when using that site:&lt;br /&gt;

                       Mort-Run PK Tournaments&lt;br /&gt;

We are starting a mortal runned pkill tournaments soon with the help of&lt;br /&gt;
current two pkill clans.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As long as we all follow the rules, (only duels, no suprise attack in the&lt;br /&gt;
house, no multi and no loot, etc) these type of games will be continue to&lt;br /&gt;
run. we can even keep an offical pkill dueling record if wanted to. and&lt;br /&gt;
fight our way into the best pkiller of the month.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The prizes will be mainly contributed by mortals like you and me, and any&lt;br /&gt;
kind immortals who could spare something here and there ;)&lt;br /&gt;

Let's shoot for this Sunday night system time 9pm! Bring your gears and&lt;br /&gt;
we will arrange lots of fun fights for you.&lt;br /&gt;

This week the Infernals had the most members active on the pkill scene.&lt;br /&gt;
The Grendels' participation was the next largest, followed by the Wardens&lt;br /&gt;
of the King. The Necromancers were represented by a trio of their members&lt;br /&gt;
on the fields of battle. The Society of Allies, The Seven Circles, The&lt;br /&gt;
Syndicate and the Knights of Legend were all championed by a couple of&lt;br /&gt;
their members. At least one member from the USL, the Avengers, and Clan&lt;br /&gt;
Smashum were also involved in pkill this past week.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

In the past week there were 66 pk-related deaths involving 52 different&lt;br /&gt;
characters. Of those 52 characters, 19 of them were accept all and 18 of&lt;br /&gt;
them were PKE at the time. There were 18 pke vs pke battles that ended in&lt;br /&gt;
death. There are 45 PKE characters total. So come on, let's get YOUR name&lt;br /&gt;
up in lights! We can't report on it if you don't tell us about it!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

                         Just Between Us...&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The barmaid grabbed two mugs from the counter and swished her way over to&lt;br /&gt;
the couple. She ran the back of her arm along her forehead, traces of&lt;br /&gt;
sweat lining her forehead again almost immediately. Calpurnius barked and&lt;br /&gt;
the girl ran back to the counter to fetch the next order.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
King Rowane beamed at his wife as he raised his mug to his lips, cool&lt;br /&gt;
amber liquid flooding his mouth. The drink barely parted his lips before&lt;br /&gt;
he was greeted with his wife's lingering kiss.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The couple huddled quietly at the corner table, immune to the hustle and&lt;br /&gt;
bustle of their surroundings. Rowane reached across the table, taking&lt;br /&gt;
MoiraGwyn's hands in his own. She smiled into his beautiful golden eyes,&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'You still manage to make me feel as I did when we were courting,' she&lt;br /&gt;
mused.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'And if only I could bottle what I feel from your eyes...' he raised her&lt;br /&gt;
hands to his lips, his look tender.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'My treasure,' she seemed thoughtful. 'I have noticed something... So&lt;br /&gt;
many still see us as we were years ago- children. An independant young&lt;br /&gt;
druidess and an olive-skinned youth inheriting his father's legacy.' She&lt;br /&gt;
smiled at her husband. 'Perhaps it is due time to assist in changing how&lt;br /&gt;
we are seen by strangers. It may be worth pondering, such alterations to&lt;br /&gt;
our images.'&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'This is why I married you, isn't it...' His beaming smile lit up his&lt;br /&gt;
face as he gazed at her.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'And why is it I married you, mister Rowane?' Her playful eyes betrayed&lt;br /&gt;
her somber expression.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'Isn't that obvious? Why surely it was due to my stunning physique.' He&lt;br /&gt;
flexed a gaunt arm and winked at her.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
MoiraGwyn laughed. 'Aye, but surely it was the other side. Such a cute&lt;br /&gt;
little bottom.' She teased her husband lovingly as his mouth reached for&lt;br /&gt;
hers, all playfulness ending in the lingering kiss.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The two giggled for hours, heads together, sharing whispered thoughts and&lt;br /&gt;
secrets amongst themselves. The crowd about them came and went, unknown&lt;br /&gt;
to them, no one but each other existing for quite some time. Eventually,&lt;br /&gt;
hand-in-hand, they ambled back to their villa to fall asleep in each&lt;br /&gt;
others arms.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The next morning as Calpurnius wiped down glasses, no recollection of the&lt;br /&gt;
extraordinary couple lingered. No gossip on the reshaping of either&lt;br /&gt;
family nor kingdom. No less rumors taunting MoiraGwyn that her husband&lt;br /&gt;
was gone, leaving her the same way as did his own father. No newspaper&lt;br /&gt;
commentary or stories of the rendevous.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
All that remained to bare witness was the scent of his spices on her&lt;br /&gt;
skin, the outline of her lips on his cheek, and a salamander that -as&lt;br /&gt;
usual- knew more than he told.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

                       All in a Night's Work&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Briarwen had never heard anyone snore so loudly in her life. Well, at&lt;br /&gt;
least she knew he was asleep. She quietly slid out of the bed and&lt;br /&gt;
hurriedly, but silently dressed.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'Fishermen have got to be the worst,' she thought as she picked up the&lt;br /&gt;
pile of coins on the table in the centre of the room. It would take her&lt;br /&gt;
days to get the stench out of her clothes.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She noted his hastily discarded clothes lying in the middle of the floor&lt;br /&gt;
and took a moment to rifle through his pockets for extra coins before&lt;br /&gt;
silently slipping out the cottage door into the early morning sunlight.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As she headed home, Briarwen dropped the handful of coins into her now&lt;br /&gt;
bulging money pouch. It had definitely been a profitable night.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Deciding to make one more stop before going home, Briarwen sauntered up&lt;br /&gt;
to the Garrison of XX Legionus Gloriosus. The legionary on guard gave her&lt;br /&gt;
a sly wink and a quick nod in response to her greeting and opened the&lt;br /&gt;
gates for her. She hurried across the fossato and headed for the&lt;br /&gt;
tribune's headquarters, nodding in greeting to the soldiers she&lt;br /&gt;
recognized along the way.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As she entered the principia, the tribune looked up from his maps and&lt;br /&gt;
frowned at her. 'What do YOU want?' he growled.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'My, my, isn't someone grumpy about being withdrawn? Can't a girl just&lt;br /&gt;
come to visit?' she replied sweetly as she draped herself across one of&lt;br /&gt;
the folding chairs.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The tribune muttered something under his breath and dismissed the men who&lt;br /&gt;
had been curiously watching.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
'What do you want?' he repeated.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Briarwen leaned forward across the table scattered with maps. 'Very well,&lt;br /&gt;
we'll skip the pleasantries,' she said. 'I was wondering if you'd given&lt;br /&gt;
any thought to what we talked about last time...' she allowed her voice&lt;br /&gt;
to trail off while she smirked smugly at the tribune. When his only&lt;br /&gt;
answer was to glare at her she continued, 'You know, it is such a fine&lt;br /&gt;
toga, all that lovely embroidery in red and gold. And so unique. There&lt;br /&gt;
aren't many around here who could afford such a fine toga. It would be&lt;br /&gt;
such a shame for the story to get out about how you came to lose it.'&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
His face now purple with rage, the tribune struggled to control himself.&lt;br /&gt;
'What do you want?' he finally managed say.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Once again smiling sweetly, she leaned back in her chair. 'You know, I've&lt;br /&gt;
been inside your house and it seems to me a few items misplaced in the&lt;br /&gt;
chaos of being withdrawn would go unnoticed. There's that lovely&lt;br /&gt;
painting. No one would miss that, surely.' She stood and crossed the room&lt;br /&gt;
and poured herself a drink from the fine pitcher and goblet set resting&lt;br /&gt;
on a server. 'You know, I might even settle for this pitcher and goblet&lt;br /&gt;
set.'&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Briarwen left the garrison that morning with a satisfied smile and there&lt;br /&gt;
was an unusual clinking noise coming from the bag she carried. 'Yes,' she&lt;br /&gt;
thought, 'it's been a profitable night indeed.'&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
