Lots more changes again this week. This week the resistance and
suceptability system changed. Thanks to those of you who pointed out
the nasty stacking bug, it's been fixed and rebooted to put it in.

With the changes to resistances and AC, many of the mobs are also
changing this summer. Much of it will be in subtle ways, so even if
you think you know a mob, you may find that things have shifted. It
will be to your advantage to explore and re-explore places where you
might have found the mobs too difficult before. We need your feedback
and a wide coverage of mobs (not just the same ones over and over
again) to make sure things are going well and the variety is out
there. If your character hasn't played the XP game, get a scorecard
from an imm, go out and kill lots, and return it to Cheyla. HELP
XP_GAME has more info.

Any command that can be used with a comma (such as wear, remove, etc,
like 'wear dagger, shield, pants') will be 'eaten' by the fast commnd
parser and never passed through as a valid command if you're under
skill lag.

This issue has been corrected in the code, but it will be a while
before it is pushed to the main running mud.

To try and refocus on the building department's goals and better meet
them, the roles and expectations of assistant and full builders have
been clarified some. I expect this will be of interest particularly
for those wishing to join the building department.

Assistant Builders: If has have not yet installed an area, work
     towards completion of it, otherwise, keep up regular general
     maintenance on personal installed area(s). Conduct regular
     general maintenance on at least one area that is not theirs.
     Participate in area reviews as necessary.

Full Builders: Conduct regular general maintenance on personal
     installed area(s) and at least one other area. Work on an
     overhaul of at least one area (thiers or other), can be done in
     stages. Work on building department projects (does not have to
     be a new area). Mentor newbie builders. Participate in area
     reviews as necessary.

Regular maintenance covers handling the normal influx of bug/typo
reports for an area, minor response work and improvements, items such
as adding DREAMS or DISGUISES to an area lacking them, and keeping
areas current with code changes (materials, resists, etc) done on a
_regular_ basis - preferably monthly or more often.

An overhaul includes major response work, implementing new ideas for
an area, converting acts or sections to use new code or work more
efficiently, converting mobs to using inherits, etc.

Department projects can cover a full new area, an expansion of an
existing area, code projects for building tools, balance reviews,
etc.

The areas below are being handled by someone other than the original
author. With this, some areas have changed hands for maintenance.

                Gathering of Warlords Tourney Results

Last week, the Gathering of Warlords PK tourney ran as a
double-elimination tournament with the following results:

Round One:
   Cypher versus Shadamehr -- Shadamehr wins
   Val versus Thedus -- Thedus wins
   Zita versus Alejandro -- Alejandro wins
   Ebu gets a BYE

Round Two:
   Ebu versus Shadamehr -- Ebu wins. Ebu is 1-0, and Shadamehr 1-1
   Thedus versus Alejandro -- Alejandro wins. Thedus is 1-1,
        Alejandro is 2-0

   Val has to leave, so it's down to Zita versus Cypher
   Cypher wins, and Zita drops from the running. Cypher is 1-1.

Round three:
   Ebu versus Alejandro -- Ebu wins and his record is now 2-0.
        Alejandro is now 2-1.

   Thedus versus Shadamehr -- Thedus wins and is now 2-1, Shadamehr
        1-2 and is eliminated.

   Thedus versus Cypher -- Thedus wins and is now 3-1. Cypher is 1-2
        and is eliminated

   Thedus versus Alejandro -- Alejandro wins and is now 3-1, Thedus
        is 2-2 and is eliminated.

Alejandro is the remaining eligible contestant -- and a rematch
yields the same result : Ebu is triumphant!

Thedus & Ebu square off under tourney conditions just for curiosity's
sake, and Ebu again pulls out a win.

Congrats to Ebu, who has emerged triumphant from the gathering of
warlords!

                        Blinding Death

As I engaged Maleficia in battle, I was blinded and raged. Being
raged I was unable to flee. I continued to fight, when all of a
sudden I crashed into something! Not being able to flee, I did the
best I could. Being at an inn, I only suspected the Innkeeper as the
thing I crashed into. I killed the target and continued to fight
Maleficia. Being hurt badly by the thing I crashed into there wasn't
really much I could do, so I fought until death. After dying, I
noticed the corpse of Trevor next to mine. I was told that I had
killed him in the fight. The only mistake he made was being AFK and
PK sitting at an inn, thinking he was safe. So I send a warning out
to you all, Don't sit someplace AFK even if nobody's gunning for you
and you think your all safe just watch out, you just may die. So
remember Safe Rooms are your friend.

Please allow me to introduce myself, if you do not know of me already
through your wisdom and your learning. I am a brother of the Friars
Minor, the Greyfriars, trained in our Lord's sciences at London and
at Oxford. For several years it was my habit to instruct in
philosophical studies at the University of Paris. During this time I
have developed several principles, notably those concerning theories
of signification and universality, which have displaced my favor with
the Holy See. Perhaps more immediately important, my work shows also
that secular governance is not within the Papacy's realm of
authority. As you'll guess, this has not made me popular with some in
the Church; yet whatever the cost to me personally, I cannot turn
from the understanding which God's provenance of reason has granted
me. Pluralitas non est ponenda sine neccesitate.

I have been charged in Bristol with heresy by agents of Pope John
XXII, whereupon I have been sent to the Papal court at Avignon for
examination. It has been four years, and John's advisors debate my
case yet; meanwhile, I continue to write, but without assignment or
duty.

In any case, these events have passed. Let me explain my present
circumstance: Pater Michael Cesena, Minister General of our Order,
has arrived in Avignon, engaged in dispute with John. We, the
Franciscan Order, like Pater Francis Assisi our founder, hold that a
true emulation of the life of Christ denies private ownership: that
our Brothers are engaged in a true apostolic poverty; yet John
refutes this principle. Pater and I have put this dilemma to study,
and have determined that John is in error; and that further, because
he continues to teach this error despite illumination, he is himself
heretical, and implicitly abdicates his Papacy.

Needless to say, John is not favorable to our position, and we are
increasingly in need of a new home.

This is our plea: that you, Great King, might come to our aid.
Frankly, we fear that John's retribution is imminent, and our lives
will be unpleasant at best should we remain within his sphere. We
humbly ask that you take us in, harbor us, provide for us. Those of
our Order require only sustenance; we neither need nor desire wealth.
In turn, I offer you the benefit of philosophy, and the political
edge that accompanies such thought. Tu me defendas gladio; ego te
defendam calamo.

Please send us word of your wishes, but quickly. The hour grows late
for us in Avignon.
