                           A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

This is a rather small LT, but I figured I should put something out incase I
get a job I recently interviewed for. So, enjoy the content, and definitely
feel free to submit your own! I'm always excited to receive new articles from

The Nth Coffee Cup with Maharet

I found myself pondering my RP origins, prior to assuming the 'C'. I relate my
nostalgia here.

  Beckoning embrace
  Traipsing fate, tremulous smile
  A lifetime of strife

*

It was cold. The rocks were really sharp, so my feet were all sore. Even though
I'd borrowed Daddy's cloak, I was still shivering.

I'd hurt Mommy. Really bad. Luci was whispering again. I couldn't remember the
last good night's sleep I'd had. If I held my hand out, it would shake a
little, even though I didn't want it to. Oh no. I was crying again. Always
whispering, Luci was. Always there.

Footsteps. I turned around, and there stood Daddy. He had his Daddy-face on. I
sniffled. The Lord of Hell. Mommy said he wasn't a very good one, but I never
told him when Mommy said stuff like that. Except that one time. Or that other
time. Oh, never mind.

"Maharet," he said, crossing his arms. Daddy's voice reminded me of a big fire
on a cold winter night. His cloak was really thick, so it made a low swishing
sound. I just sniffled.

"Come here," he said. I shook my head. He knelt down. "Maharet Alexander," he
said in his Daddy-voice.

I was in his arms. I cried. And I cried. And I cried. And I cried. He just pet
my hair, saying how beautiful it was, raven black just like Mommy's. Daddy was
there, and that was all that mattered.

                        Description Change: Israella

I always loved the shine of latex. It was beautiful, the glossiness against my
soft skin. The height of unnatural against my very natural self... yes, I love
the way it looks, yet not how it feels. It sticks to the skin, pulling so very
painfully if one isn't careful, and it definitely doesn't breathe. Living in
Italy has been wonderful, but my latex outfit has made it a Hell. I've had
enough, regardless of how I will always be fond of the beauty the material
holds.

I now seek out the finest of satin and lace. It isn't cotton, yes, yet it
looks lovely, and feels so much better than the latex ever did. It will make
residing in the Hellmouth so much bearable, as well as my many travels to the
island of Malta. Perhaps someday I'll return to the shine of the latex, but
that won't be any time soon.

It's been said that the woman who should have been my mother wore satin and
lace. I can only hope I pull it off half as well as she's rumored to have.

Israella will now be known as:
Short: a capricious romantic
Long: Satin and lace dress this tan beauty as she meddles in business
       not her own.

Eyes closed, brow furrowed, Caden forced every ounce of power into the shield.
A huge, opaque bubble appeared, surrounding the residence and locking Jaina
and Rowane inside. He could feel his energy depleting, and he knew that until
he had an opportunity to rest, he would be no match for whatever it was that
was waiting for him.

He could feel the heat of it at his back, smell the blood and sulfur.

'How noble,' mused the thing standing behind him, its grating voice echoing
throughout the street. People stopped and stared for a moment before dropping
whatever they were doing and running in fear. Caden sighed, finishing up the
spell.

'Not that it matters,' continued the figure. 'You've saved two, and lost so
many more.'

Caden turned, raising his chin and staring at his newfound advirsary. Standing
nearly seven feet tall, it was a picture definition of evil: black, spiked
armor and red flames coated nearly every inch of it. A black cape was hooked
to its shoulders, billowing in the afternoon wind. Just being near the thing
made Caden feel like he was standing over a bonfire. It was difficult to
breathe.

'You're not really going for subtle, are you?' remarked Caden, doing his best
to raise his magical defenses. The shield around the house had taken a lot
of his strength, though. He wouldn't be winning this fight.

The figure seemed to blur, and suddenly was inches away from him, driving a
fist into his torso. Caden felt the impact and flew backward through the air,
smashing into a nearby property wall, cracking the stone. He bounced off of
it, landing hard on the ground. He could feel broken ribs.

Caden had been hit hard before. Training with Lethe was never easy, and his
father could hit a lot harder than you would think if you looked at him. But
this... it was like getting hit by a car. Had he not been the son of Lethe
and a goddess, he'd have been torn in half.

Caden staggered to his feet, pushing the pain back. He muttered a quick
spell, steadying his resolve and his body. Drawing his sword, Caden leapt to
attack with a downward strike.

The figure swatted his blade aside like it was a toy and caught Caden by the
throat with one hand. His sword clattered to the ground as Caden grasped the
metal hand, his flesh seared by the heat of the steel. He struggled, but this
foe was stronger than he could have ever imagined.

The behemoth brought him closer, his covered face inches from Caden. 'You're
going to die soon, boy, but not today. You protected them this time, but
soon, you'll watch all of them die, and your childish magic won't be able to
stop me. Enjoy your time with them while you can. Soon, they'll all meet
their end.'

Without another word, the beastly thing rammed a spiked knee into Caden's
already wounded gut. He could feel the hot metal stab into him. He cried out
in pain, still struggling in vain. The figure tossed him aside like a toy,
sending him tumbling across the street and crashing into the side of a house.
Caden heard screams of fear as he blasted through the wall and smashed into a
sofa, breaking it in half.

He groaned, climbing to his feet yet again. He staggered through the hole in
the wall, back onto the street. The tall demon watched him with amusement.
Caden raised a hand and spoke the words of the only spell he could cast right
now, a bolt of lightning arcing out toward his foe. The beast caught the bolt
with one hand, seeming entirely unharmed. Caden stared at the thing and
raised both hands, casting yet more lightning.

Again the figure caught the lightning, blasting it aside with a swat.

'My turn,' it hissed, appearing in front of Caden and giving him a sharp
uppercut. Before he could even begin to fly back, however, he felt a blow at
his back, slamming him down into the ground. He cried out in pain, but he
knew he wouldn't be getting up again. Burns covered his body, and his legs
weren't working right. He tried to crawl away, but he felt a kick at his
side, sending him onto his back.

The demon pressed a foot onto his chest, leaning down toward him. 'Until next
time, little boy.'

With that, it lifted off the ground into the sky. It raised its arms, sending
fiery bolts out into the city. Caden could vaguely hear screams and
explosions, and he suddenly realized how stupid he was. He couldn't help
them, now.

Smoke swirled around the beast, and in a flash of light and heat, it was gone.
Caden attempted to crawl, but he could feel his grip slipping. With one last
effort, he rolled onto his side and passed out.
