                       ***** An Important Reminder *****

We just want to remind everyone that clan timers currently have the ability to
be set to 1 Year (or 365 days -- lookin' at you, Leap Year). Members must log
in at least once during that timeframe (or whatever their GM has it set to) in
order to remain in their clan. It's a long span of time, given in the hopes of
not only keeping the clans alive, but ensuring that our players know they don't
have to worry if life happens <tm>. Their place within their clan(s) is safe,
and the character will still be within the clan, GM-willing, when able to return.

                             A Friendly Reminder

We've recently received a number of requests for hints or tips concerning
various gear and quest aspects in-game. This is just a reminder that:

- Immortals are not allowed by code of conduct to reveal in-game information.
- Some EQ is impossible to get and will not be mundaned. This type of gear is
designed to be for NPCs only.
- Immortals cannot verify what equipment is unobtainable - that's for you to
  discover!
- Some quests are meant to be more difficult than others. If you think it's a
bug, send a message over the bug channel or a mudmail to Lamia or Mertjai.
If it's a bug issue, we'll be more than glad to help. If it isn't, we won't
give you a hint towards the next objective.
- If it seems too good to be true, it's possible it is. Best practice is to
send in a comment using the bug command.
- Sometimes things don't go according to plan, whether on the immortal-side or
player-side. If something seems to have gone wrong, it doesn't hurt to send
  a mudmail.

                            An Etiquette Reminder

I understand that XP boosts are super awesome and exciting, but please be
aware of your surroundings. This includes the status of various NPCs while
you're XPing. Kill stealing is frowned upon, and is even addressed in HELP
ETIQUETTE. Repeated occurrences will result in a warning. So, again, please be
aware of what's going on in an area.

Area & Code Updates:
+ Sana should be less spammy when there is a lack of victim.
+ Minor help file updates.
+ Adjusted the 'wear all' message while attempting to wield multple items to
be more precise.
+ New vendor npc in Indust. Pittsburgh, complete with a new item to sell.
+ Minor bug fixes.

Nestor and Penumbra have been hard at work on their respectable areas. Yay! <3

                             A Note from Sandra

Hi again everyone. I've been around, mostly behind the scenes and I expect it
will remain that way for the forseeable future. Mertjai and Lamia have me
chained to my laptop fixing bugs in my areas and some code. If you find a bug,
please report it so I can fix it. I don't know how long I will be around and
I'd like to help the imps out as much as I can.

Also, I AM NOT AN IMP! I stepped down from that position over 6 years ago and
Mertjai and Lamia are doing a fine job in my and Lorenzo's place. I'm a happy
little immortal with a bunch of commands and a pink bow.

Lastly, you can mudmail me with any game issues as far as bugs and some
skills/areas discussions. But I DO NOT make final decisions on these, so I
implore you to CC one or both of the imps as well. I WILL NOT GET INTO THE
PKILL ARGUMENT. I'm sorry but the playerbase has made PK what it is currently,
which is obviously a distant second to everything else. I'm not going to waste
time coding stuff for PK.

muah!

A Reminder

These lands, oh how I have missed them. Has it been so long? A decade I think.
Still, Richard the innkeeper, as jolly-looking as ever is still here serving
his loaves of round bread. Will o' the Green is still here letting me pass for
free, so long as my my pockets are empty.

As I settled down around the table at the Royal Stag it felt like home again.
Digging through my bags trying to remember where I left everything I came upon
a bit of parchment from my esteemed guild leader, Sir Ganymede. I could not
believe my eyes but in my hand was a copy of the Code of the Knights of
Legend.

Now, many things change over the years. There are new names, faces, lands, and
organizations scattered about our Legend and not surprisingly the Knights are
not currently fielding a standing chapter which is to be understood. I had two
thoughts.

First, as a young Knight this document inspired me in many ways and I think it
is meet and right that this document not be lost to history. So for the
benefit of the community I submit the Code without edit as passed down to me
16 years ago and penned many years before that.

Second, if there are any Knights of old or perhaps aspiring Knights to be I
call you to arms! Let us ride the lands of Legend once again! Let us protect
the innocent, defy the dastardly, assist the newbie and when no one else can,
let us wade into danger and retrieve the corpse of the would-be adventurer!
Please do reach out if you're interested.

With that, please find below our guidelines, rules and code of conduct. A
special piece of Legend handed down and at least now, published for posterity
if nothing else.

To All Concerned:

What follows is Sir Gwystel's excellent Code of the Knights of Legend. In
these Troubled Times I find this manuscript and what it stands for as valid
and important today as ever it was in Years Past. Taking note of the multiple
revisions made to the Code over time, the question may be raised of its
Purity. I would assure all that the Code has been changed but slightly since
its first draft so many years ago. Indeed, my own changes were made chiefly to
reflect Game Code Changes here or there (such as regarding clan tokens, which
no longer exist). It should be noted that the realm of Legend is a dynamic
one, ever changing and Fluid. That being so, allowances must be made to make
small alterations to the Venerable Code when the issue is one concerning game
dynamics. But the Spirit and the rules themselves must be left in their
original and uncorrupted state so that our clan may do the same.

The Knights' Code

By Sir Gwystel, with help from Sir Khelleck
Revisions by Sir Crowe, Sir Dominic, Sir Ganymede

Fellow Knights, We have oft expressed a desire to see a 'code' for our
conduct. As a deputy guild-master, I have taken it upon myself to pen my
thoughts on the Knights, and the way we should conduct ourselves. It will
also further the definitions of honor, valor, loyalty and such as it seems to
be to me. One thing further of note is that for some reason here, there are
persons to which death has no meaning at all. They are not diminished by it,
they suffer not at all from it. But there are others. The former are commonly
known as mobs. They return time and time again after death, suffering no ill
effects. This discussion is for the rest of the inhabitants of Legend.

Part 1: On Being A Knight

I believe the discussion should begin with honor. This is a most touchy
subject as it applies to us here in Legend. Many would use it to browbeat us,
attack us, or force us into unwise actions.

RULE #1: Honor does not equal stupidity.

Honor is something that is a part of your internal character. It can be
learned, and it is expressed in your actions. Being a Knight does not make
one honorable. Honor is something you fight for each and every day with each
and every action and decision you make. Honor doesn't mean you have to act to
please others. If you believe that to have an honorable battle means to show
up and beat on your opponent until one of the two of you dies, I will mark
your grave on every anniversary of your passing. Honor is choosing to act
rightfully, cheerfully, and for good in your actions. Honor is keeping your
word, paying your debts, giving credit to those you may not like, but are
worthy in their own right. Honor in battle in Legend is not so tough to
achieve, but many have a different interpretation than we.

RULE #2: Use your heart to select your actions and stands, use your head to
see you through to the outcome of your actions.

When presented with options on actions, or a question of what to stand up for,
use your heart. It will tell you what is the right thing to do. Once you are
committed, use your head to see your decision through. Accepting a battle
challenge is honorable, and once committed, use everything at your disposal to
see your combat through. Use fade person, use see invisible, use sneak, hide,
and all of your skills except those that are clearly wrong. Backstabbing,
poisoning and such are clearly unconscionable to anyone worthy of the title
Knight of Legend. Accepting a challenge from a superior foe, while
courageous, and possibly honorable, is mayhap not brilliant. Some would call
you coward, and slur your 'honor', but again, honor doesn't mean stupidity.
If you feel strongly about your stand, as I did in my battle with
DeathStalker, then maybe proceeding is what you must do. But in the face of
adversity, follow your instincts as to what actions are truly dis-honorable
and cowardly, and care naught for what others may think of you. Your actions
do reflect on us, yes, and maybe there is a need for additional guidance, but,
once you have made your decision, STICK WITH IT. This too is also part of
being honorable. I can't recall ever hearing, "He is wishy-washy in act,
thought and deed, but we look up to him."

Loyalty is another attribute of favor among the Knights. We pledge in fact to
assist our fellow Knights in their endeavors, and our blades when trouble
arises. We MUST stick together. We are one of the most powerful clans in the
realms, and as such, we draw our flock of detractors. We will be judged by
standards and expectations beyond that experienced by any other group, for We
are the Knights of Legend. We help those in need, and our compatriots as is
our duty, and because we would anyway, because that is part of what sets us
apart, that compels us to become Knights to begin with.

Courage and Valor. These are quite likely the two hardest things for a person
to live by, for they are like quicksilver, flowing this way and that, forever
changing by the dictates of the environment. A Knight must be courageous, yes,
but what does that really mean? Accepting any challenge or quest no matter
the folly of it? Not ever. Sometimes, the most courageous thing a person can
do is nothing. Courage comes in many forms, but the most important, is doing
what is right, no matter the cost. Courage and honor go hand in hand in most
things. Our sense of honor will set us upon a course of action, one that
maybe we do not like. Courage is that quality that will see us through to the
end, providing we keep our wits about us.

So, now that we have honor, courage, and loyalty, what do we DO? We now begin
to delve into the 'code' by which we must live. We do what we choose to do,
according to our nature. But, there are some rules to be observed.

Part 2: The Code

This is a military order. We have leaders, and are expected to carry out
their dictates. There may be many who hold a given grade, such as deputy
guild-master, but ONE will always be of greater rank. We discuss things to
get opinions, and attitudes and ideas from members, but all decisions are
absolutely the realm of the Guild-master himself. The Guild-master's word is
final. The deputy and other office holders act with authority in the
Guild-master's absence.

Here are rules for our conduct as Knights:

1) You must always act with honor and courtesy to ALL you meet.

2) Your word, once given, cannot be broken.

3) A hallmark of our clan is fellowship. This means that you should give
high consideration to the needs of other Knights. Assist them with corpse
retrieval, or other dire situations. Help them with equipment and
information. Offer the help freely, and assist when asked. Group with other
Knights for fun and xp as often as you can. Leave excess gear in the clanhall.

4) Service to needy non-members is another high ideal of the Knights.
Whenever you can, assist newbies, help people reequip, assist in random corpse
retrieval. Make new citizens feel welcome to the lands.

5) Have a thick skin. Many people insult our clan or disparage our ideals.
Ignore them. We do not care what such people think. You may explain your
beliefs and values, or explain and defend your actions, but do not engage in
insult trading or shouting matches. If an insult is so grave that it requires
action, issue a challenge for a duel or discuss the matter with the Master or
Deputy without responding in kind.

6) Knight of Legend MUST appear in your title. Take pride in your position.

7) Any combat you undertake must be declared before the start of battle, and
must be declared to be personal, or in the name of the Knights. Attacking
without prior notice of the conflict is forbidden (though, once announced, the
enemy is thereafter on notice of the conflict).

8) The Guild-master reserves the right to start a clan war, form clan
alliances, or mark a player for perma-death. However, in matters of perma-
death marking it is strongly suggested that the Guild-master gain input from
fellow Knights beforehand.

9) Looting a corpse of a player you have killed is FORBIDDEN, unless that
player is targeted for perma-death. Don't take even one token without
authorization.

10) Killing an unarmed player low on hp, (ie to kill them again when they
come back for gear) is FORBIDDEN, unless that player is targeted for perma-
death.

11) Hiring a member of the assassins' guild, or any other person who is for
hire, for the purpose of pkill or any other aggressive act, is forbidden. No
task or battle you cannot or will not carry out yourself or with the help of
friends is worth it.

12) Don't use dishonorable combat tactics. Backstabbing is strictly
prohibited even against mobs. It is your personal choice whether to associate
with those who do backstab mobs. Use poison only under two circumstances:

a) when is it part of the extra damage from a weapon, which requires that you
face the enemy directly or

b) when you have arranged a duel that will include the use of any spells or
potions, and your enemy is warned. Poisoning mobs to prevent healing is fine,
if you will be fighting, but poisoning mobs to death without combat or with
little combat is discouraged.

13) Your conduct speaks for you at All Times in the eyes of your peer Knights
as well as the general public. A Knight who does not act his part is a stain
upon our clan's Good Name. For this reason, should Three Knights or More
together feel that another of the clan has acted Questionably, they may then
ask the Guild-master to place that Knight under Probation.

14) Probation of a Knight shall last for a period of One (RL) Month. During
this Time, he or she shall lose the right to Vote in Clan Matters, and to
Sponsor a prospective New Clan Member. At the End of this Period, should the
Knight's actions prove Honorable and True at All Times, the Probation shall be
lifted. If not, that Knight shall be Outcast from the clan by the Guild-master.

Part 3: Miscellaneous

1) Membership. To join, a candidate must be pkill enabled and use the SEEK
command to confirm his or her intentions. He/she must have completed the
Ritter quest in Klein, and must have at least one other Knight sponsor them as
a Squire to assure the clan of good character. The Guildmaster will then
induct the new member and help that person with induction information.

2) The locations of Knight Guild-halls must be given to no one who has not
been identified by the Guild-master as a Friend of the Clan. Further, no one
should be given admittance into any Knight hall without permission from the
Guild-master or the Deputy Master, and halls must be kept Locked at All Times.

Specks of Dust

Talking, they were always talking. Even Rick, a good leader, always seemed to
be talking. Justifying, cajoling, fixing, explaining, starting and stopping.
Sometimes all of those things at once. Daryl didn't talk much, he figured
there was no need and little room in any case. He did hear, he heard
everything they said.

The thing is, Rick was right before. Rick questions himself, we all do. Daryl
questioned him too but he knew the answer when he heard it. There is so little
light left in the world. They had their little piece here, their family. You
have to keep light on, you have to keep the candle flickering.

Daryl was lucky. He'd found a family, become a part of the light. An agent of
the light, at night when he stared up at the ceiling he wondered if this is
how Lancelot or whoever the hell felt. He didn't have armor or a sword just
his leather jacket and crossbow. Thing is, he didn't want no damn grail, all
he wanted was to find more light.

They were out there too, like those little pieces of dust you see in the light
in the morning before you get up. If he could just grab them and bring them
back, they could add up to something bigger. Like when he was a kid and Meryl
would make a big fire on Mr. McCreedys back 40. A couple of sticks and you had
a little fire, keep throwing on logs and eventually you have an inferno.
That's what they needed, an inferno.

Because there were others out there, Negan, wolves, cannibals... the
Governor... they were looking for the light too. Not too keep it, but to take
it. To darken the world, they were like those things in space ya know, that
eat stars? Black holes. Black holes are bad dudes but if you get a big enough
fire. Maybe you can make'em choke on it.

That's the thing about this light. When it's small and alone it's easy for a
the big bad wolf to blow the house down. Dying sure as hell snuffs out lights
real quick. Then again, if you don't find the heart. If you don't find the
compassion, then your light gets a little dimmer. Dimmer every day until you
look in the mirror and you're holding a barbed wire bad. You're the black
hole.

That's why he had to go out there, find those little pieces of dust and bring
them back. Every time he saved a light, theirs was brighter. Both because you
add another and because you get better in the process.

How many walkers have you killed?

How many people have you killed?

Why?

A Letter

Lord Trickster,

This realm still doesn't compare to my time in Asgard, yet you warned me that
my heart would always lie in the golden away-lands. I have found this to be
true, though there are some things that have made my time in Midgard more
tolerable. You met Cordell during one of my previous visits - Thank you again
for not terrorizing him too much - and he has gone to great lengths to help me
situation myself here, offering help and guidance, as well as companionship.
It was something those in the golden realm told me I would never find, yet
here it is, from another mortal like myself.

I do find myself wondering how many children you sired in this land, as I feel
that I have come upon one of your descendants. Whether she be a child or one
far-removed from your lineage, I do not know, however she is as crafty and
full of wit as you are, words flying past her lips with the speed of a
striking viper. Her name is Fable, and she reminds me so much of you, down to
how she must remain confined to a small plot of space that the greater powers
have alloted her. She escapes, occasionally, and the havoc she wreaks! It is
like art brought to life, how she twists words and minds with a silver tongue
and sly little smile.

I think perhaps you would like her, should you find yourself able to tear your
mind from your plottings.

Sincerely,
Arianne Kirvel

Minetta knocked on the bedroom door, opening it without waiting for a response
from beyond. She smiled tightly at the redhead who was seated on the bed, a
book in hand. "Alayne," Minetta said, closing the door behind her. "I trust
you've been well?" The woman swept across the room and sat on a chair near the
window. She raised an eyebrow at Alayne, crossing her leg as the redhead
stared at her in silence, her brow furrowed. "Sansa?"

"I've been fine," Alayne finally responded, snapping her book closed before
setting it on the bedside table. "To what do I owe this visit, Minetta?" She
inclined her head slightly as she stared at Minetta, a small sneer tugging at
her lips.

Minetta laughed and reclined in her seat, leaning heavily on the armrest.
"You're to leave for Malta tomorrow, with my husband." Alayne stood and
crossed her arms as she moved to stand in front of Minetta. When she opened
her mouth to object, Minetta said, "Ransom is well aware of this. There is no
reason for you to be here longer, as this very likely regards the Order. You
never made it past squire -"

"Sir Rictor spoke to me--" Alayne began before Minetta cut her off.

"Never made it past squire," Minetta said, staring pointedly at Alayne. "And
you still fancy yourself in love with someone who hasn't been your knight in
years," she finished coldly. Alayne pursed her lips as she glared down at
Minetta, who merely raised an eyebrow at the flustered redhead. "You are going
to leave in the morning, Alayne. While Ransom surely appreciates your
assistance in reuniting him with an old friend, this no longer concerns you."

Alayne sneered, turning away from Minetta. "I've known plenty of women like
you," she said, striding across the room before turning to face the woman in
the chair. "Women who never show who they truly are in the light of day. Women
with dark hearts and dark intentions, thriving in the back rooms where they
can give in to their own nature without the poor men they've seduced becoming
any the wiser."

Slowly, Minetta stood, her strides as she approached Alayne almost predatory
in nature. "Dark women with dark hearts," she said quietly, a small smile
gracing her lips as she shook her head. "No, I'm merely a friend, looking out
for Ransom's best interests. If that means upsetting your delicate ego, Lady
Stark, then so be it. I will hurt your feelings and endure your name-calling
and theories about my character to keep you from stirring up unnecessary drama
in his and Kezia's lives." She pushed past Alayne, towards the door. "You'll
leave in the morning with Logan. Don't dawdle." With that Minetta left, the
door shutting silently behind her.

A Most Unexciting Wedding

Naeva sat on the couch with her back to the armrest, her legs draped over
Ari's, the hunter sitting on the middle cushion. Her head lolled back as she
groaned, "Oh my God, why do we need other people? It's not like there's
paperwork or anything." She turned her head to stare at Moris while Ari
chuckled under his breath. "Welllllll?"

"Marriage is a contract, Miss Trinstadt," Lord Ravenswick said from his place
across from Naeva and Ari. "Verbal contracts such as this require witnesses
for any legal standing to be upheld." He pinched the bridge of his nose,
sighing softly. "Theresa would be most upset with me if I denied her the
chance to witness Mr. Leonte's..."

Ari quirked a brow, smirking slightly as he watched Moris glance between Naeva
and Theresa, who was currently at the door to the castle, speaking with a
number of people from what he could hear. "What about me?"

Moris sighed, his eyes locked with Ari's. "Buying a cow." Both men winced as
Naeva's shrill 'WHAT' echoed within the receiving chamber. Moris held up a
hand to silence the woman, his expression a pained one. "She was torn between
that expression, 'drop anchor', and..." Moris turned to look at Theresa as she
led several people into the room. "What was the third one, my love?"

Theresa laughed as she motioned to Setheus and the Kirvel family - Kezia,
Ransom, Eitri, and Arianne - to be seated on one of the several couches and
loveseats that decorated the large room. "'Settle down' was the third, Moris.
But we quickly decided against it as it is common sense to assume that neither
Ari nor Naeva will ever find it in their hearts to settle down."

"BUYING THE COW, COURTESSA?" Naeva whined at the woman while Ari pulled Naeva
onto his lap before she was able to roll off of the couch. "I WILL REMEMBER
THAT UNTIL MY DYING DAY. I thought we had a connection, a real moment between
us when I was taking your temperature and checking your reflexes. I should
have known something was amiss when you married Moris, my other-other-other
one true love."

"I'm so confused," Kezia mumbled to Ransom as they watched the exchange. He
merely shrugged, smiling slightly as he watched Naeva struggle to change the
subject as both Ari and Moris inquired as to who her first two true loves
were.

"VALDRYTH," Naeva yelled, flailing against Ari's hold on her. "Valy-val, help
me. Stop trying to set up a threesome with you, Seraphina, and Eitri's wife
and help me!" The trio turned to look at Naeva, Addyson and Valdryth frowning
while Seraphina hid her blushing face behind her hands. A small cough from
across the room came from Eitri, who was also working at hiding a blush.

Tessa laughed, motioning for the three to be seated. "Perhaps we should get
started, before Naeva fully distracts us from the true reason we have this
gathering?" Moris sighed heavily as he stood, directing Tessa to take his
previous seat.

Moris raised an eyebrow at Naeva and Ari as they remained on the couch, the
hunter's arm firmly wrapped around Naeva's waist. "Are we to be this
casual?" Moris drawled, sounding terribly bored and tired of the situation
already.

"Would probably be for the best, unless you don't mind her trying to shoot you
for the cow comment," Ari said with a half-shrug, earning a laugh from Setheus
and Arianne. "It was a good idea to have both of us disarm before all of
this."

Moris nodded ever so slightly before asking, "Do either of you have the
rings?"

"On the table," Naeva said with a nod of her head, though she continued to
squirm, attempting to escape from Ari's grasp. "Let's do this. I'm 900% sure
that Kezia brought food because she can't help herself and I'm getting
hungry."

"She did," Arianne and Eitri said at the same time. "Woke us up at dawn to
help her with it," Arianne continued. "I missed out on prime beauty sleep."
She winked at Valdryth, who merely rolled his eyes as he worked at suppressing
a smirk.

Lord Ravenswick took a deep, calming breath before speaking. "Dearly beloved-"
He narrowed his gaze at Setheus, who covered his mouth and shook his head,
waving for Moris to continue. "We are gathered here today to witness the
joining - "

"No you're not," Naeva mumbled under her breath. "That's happening later
tonight."

"Witness the joining," Moris ground out, "Of Ari Leonte and Naeva Trinstadt in
some sort of union. I have not been informed as to whether it is Holy or
merely of convenience. Given what is known of the bride, I will merely assume
she badgered," Moris looked squarely at Naeva as he slowly spoke the word
'badgered', quickly deflecting the pillow she lobbed at his head. "Mister
Leonte into agreeing to this farce of a wedding."

Ransom slipped his arm around Kezia's shoulders as she stared at Ari. She was
doing her best to conceal her terror, her agreeance as to how much of a farce
she found the wedding to be. The knight chuckled softly as he gave his wife a
small squeeze and placed a kiss against her temple.

"Not entirely true," Ari said with a laugh. "Not entirely untrue, either."

Moris quickly turned to look at those gathered, cutting off Naeva's objection
to Ari's comment. "Do any of you have reasons as to why these two should not
be wed? If so, speak now, or forever hold your peace." Naeva pointed at
Valdryth, glaring, which caused the man to give her a baffled look while he
raised his hands in defense. A ripple of laugher sounded from the group, but
no objections were given.

With a nod, Moris turned back to the bride and groom. "Do you, Ari Leonte,
promise to keep this woman, to honor her, hold her in your heart from this day
forward, through sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, until death do
you part?"

Ari pressed a soft kiss atop Naeva's head before saying, "I do so, gladly."

Moris raised an eyebrow at Naeva. "Do you, Naeva Trinstadt, promise to not
drive this man to an early death with your ridiculous, unreasonable,
unnecessary antics?" Naeva wrinkled her nose before giving a small shrug and
saying her 'I do'.

With a nod of his head towards the couchside table, Moris said, "If you would
be kind enough to actually do some work for your own marriage..." Naeva stuck
her tongue out at Moris as Ari reached over to pick the two silver bands up.
He gave Naeva an emerald-etched one, raising an eyebrow at Moris as he held
onto an amethyst-etched band. "Please, exchange your rings, which symbolize
your ever-lasting love and commitment to one another."

Ari was the first to move, his actions gentle as he carefully slipped the
amethyst band onto Naeva's finger. He gave her hand a small squeeze before
kissing the ring. She made a face at the hunter, though she was just as gentle
as he had been as she placed the emerald ring upon his finger. "We done yet?"
she asked Moris before giving Ari a teasing smile.

Moris ran a hand over his face, trying his best to stifle his sigh. "I now
pronounce you, Ari Leonte and Naeva Trinstadt, married, in the eyes of your
peers and greater forces as well. You may now kiss the bride."

Ari didn't have time to react before Naeva jerked out of his arms only to
throw herself at him, giving him quite the kiss. "Ladies and gentlemen," Moris
said, smiling ever so slightly as he spoke above the catcalls and whistles
from a select few in attendance. "I present to you Ari and Naeva Leonte."

Herb Gathering

Arianne frowned at Ari, the two having been at this silent stand-off for
several moments. She had been trying to collect a certain type of nightshade
that her Lord Trickster insisted needed to be picked during the first full
moon after the first day of Midgardian spring, and Ari had been doing his very
best to deter her from her completing her task.

'You'll get yourself killed,' the hunter finally said, his arms crossing over
his chest, a tone of finality to his words. 'And Gods help us if your mother
had to endure that.'

The young woman snorted, rolling her eyes as she crossed her own arms. 'That's
not fair,' she snapped, glaring at Ari. 'You can't bring mom into this every
time you want to get your way.'

'Damn it, Arianne!' Ari huffed and shook his head. 'This isn't about me
"getting my way". It's about you staying safe. The wolves are more active now
than they've been in the past 18 months.'

Arianne raised a shoulder in a half shrug before rifling through her bag.
'They'll stay away from me,' she said airily, glancing at her godfather as a
small smirk played on her lips. 'I've got plenty of reason for them to.' It
was Ari's turn to roll his eyes, his arms uncrossing and hands slipping into
the pockets of his coat as he did so. Arianne hummed softly as she found what
she was looking for, her smirk slipping into a grin very feline in nature.

'Fine,' Ari sighed. 'I'll play your game. What reasons do you have?'

Arianne practically cackled at Ari's exasperated tone. 'Just two reasons,' she
said, withdrawing a pair of rainbow-colored maracas from her bag. 'Cordell got
them from your lady wife. This was your secret all along, wasn't it, Ari? You
sang and danced those wolves to an early grave.'

In the end, Arianne did manage to procure her equinox nightshade, but only
with Ari accompanying her. His only condition to their compromise was that
those maracas never saw the light of day again, preferably by them meeting
their over-due end in a firepit.

Spring Cleaning

'Father,' Addyson called from across the library at the Carthage townhouse,
'What are these?' She held up a bundle of black and white feathers, the rest
of them tangled around the remaining contents of the box they had been
residing in for, what Addyson assumed, years. Moris stood from his spot at the
table where he had been sorting through various documents and books and walked
to Addyson. A small smile tugged at his lips as he crouched next to his
daughter and the box.

'They were your mother's,' he said, a hand reaching to lightly touch the
feathers before taking them from Addyson. 'A set of wings that she would
occasionally wear because, well, she could. It used to infuriate me, as she
only acquired them after Setheus had initially visited her dreams.'

Addyson raised an eyebrow as she carefully set about untangling the mass from
the other items within the box. 'But not now?'

Shaking his head, Moris' smile grew. 'It was less about Setheus, I now
realize, and more about a hope for redemption for your mother. She had dove
into life as a Mistress of Hell, and at such a young age she had not realized
what that meant entirely, I believe. It wasn't that she was enamored with his
face or figure, or words, but the hope that she felt in her soul from the fact
that an angel would bother with her at all.'

'But I thought it... I mean, Kendrew, Father...'

Moris nodded as Addyson managed to free the pair of wings completely from
their confines. 'Setheus took advantage of that, but even for being ageless,
he was quite young. Emotionally, anyway. This realm has aged him, matured him
in a way that the Heavenly realm could not. Not that your mother was not at
fault. Some blame, I think, lies with all of us.' He held up the pair of
white-tipped black wings before smiling at Addyson. 'That line of thought,
however, leads us down a trail of what-ifs and could-have-beens. That's not
why we are here, though, is it, Addyson?'

She shook her head before canting it to the right. 'We're here to organize and
condense. Is it wrong to think on such things? I often wonder what would have
happened should Mother have become one of the Fallen instead of the shell that
she is...'

'A fate worse than her current one, I think, Addyson,' Moris said quietly
before leaning over to place a kiss against Addyson's hair. 'Not all of Hell
is as you think it to be,' he said softly before standing, wings still
in-hand. 'I will take these. I believe I know of a good home for them.'

Addyson frowned up at him. 'Israella? I wish you wouldn't speak with her so.
She only wishes to take you from Theresa.'

Moris chuckled softly and shook his head as he returned to the table. 'No, not
Miss Israella. I was thinking someone who would find them to be, ah, 'fun'.'
