This spell has taken months to prepare, I don't want to ruin it now. I run a mental checklist of what is needed, and affirm that I do have everything. Finally, the spell to cast off my accursed humanity is nearly complete. No more flawed body, no more weak mind, no more linear perception of time. First step: I call the elemental essence of darkness to envelop my body. Cold. Dark. Perfect. Next, I free my hand from the shadow and slice it neatly off with my magic, feeding my blood to the shadow. Dimly, it occurs to me that this may be the last time I ever feel pain. I don't know if I'll feel pain in my new form. Casting my mind towards the essence the same way I do when I call a demon, I lay out my terms. I give it my body, all my blood, and whatever vestigial soul I have, and it gives me some of itself to use as a body. Its mind feels alien. It doesn't think the same way my demons do, or humans, for that matter. It seems to realize that it gets more of the delicious blood I fed it a minute ago if it agrees, and so it does. There is a moment where I feel my body getting torn apart by the darkness. Then... Black. Cold. Wonderful. I come to, and see my old body being eaten away by darkness. Looking down, I see that instead of the flawed, human body, I have a body made of darkness, darker than shadows and normal darkness. I find myself unpleased with the shape, though, and think that I would rather it looked something more like my old body. All of a sudden, it reshapes itself into a tall, curvaceous figure, almost exactly like my old body. I touch my stomach, and it has the consistency of flesh. I think for a moment, however, and then it offers no resistance to physical objects at all. Smirking, I decide to use this form as my default, as I like it. My smirk grows as I imagine what other people will think of this form, as so many people liked my old, human form, and tripped over themselves to fall for me. Grinning, I glide away, noting with some amusement that my feet don't even touch the ground unless I want them to. Perfect. Well worth my soul. Tenebrae will now be known as: a living creature of shadow A curvaceous female figure seemingly composed of shadows looms here. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Description Change: Lethe Smoke filled the air, making it hard to breathe. A normal man would probably be bothered by it, perhaps even adversely affected, but Lethe Aurion was no normal man. But as talented as he was, even Lethe Aurion could muster no escape from this place. Red-hot chains bound his arms, constantly searing his flesh. He hung from those chains, his toes barely touching the floor. Sweat poured from his brow as he stared ahead, into the curtain of flames in front of him. 'You are a fool,' called a voice, deep, malicious. 'To swear your fidelity on your blood, to bind yourself to our will... all for her? A mortal woman? The great Lethe Aurion, brought to his knees by a stupid girl.' Lethe stared ahead, grinning in defiance. 'I did it all for the nookie, boss.' He let out a shout of pain as he struggled, but he had no power here. 'So,' mused the voice. 'What now? Your immortal, nigh-limitless power would go to waste in the Pit with us.' Lethe struggled against his chains. 'I make a mean rack of ribs,' he offered with another smirk. An invisible force slammed into his side, like a hammer, breaking ribs as it did. Lethe cried out, unable to do anything but hang in his bindings as his captor ravaged his body. 'Your courage is commendable,' said the voice, amused. 'But it will do you no good. We are beyond that. You will serve me, Lethe Aurion, but you will not do it here. I will return you to the world which you so love, and you will bring it to its knees. Chaos is your new master, Aurion. Pain is your new goal. You will be reshaped for this purpose. I hope you enjoy your choice.' Lethe stared ahead, emotionless. He wouldn't give the voice the satisfaction of knowing his fear. But it was there. Crimson flames grew around him, masking and changing him. Chained to Fate, Lethe smiled softly, a single tear falling down his face as he remembered his family, friends, and the good that he had done. He hoped it would be enough. Lethe will now be known as: the bringer of Chaos Limned in crimson fire, this iron-clad being unravels everything in his wake. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ______________________ / \ o O | Wonder what folks are | `\|||/ |doing over at LegendMUD?| (o o) \_______________________/ ooO_(_)_Ooo________________________________________________________________ _____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|___ __|_____|_____|_____|_____|__PLAYER SUBMISSIONS___|_____|_____|_____|_____| I have been traveling around the world, meeting deities and proving my valor to collect their favors. I had been doing it alone to protect my wife from the obvious dangers, but, of course, TheWatcher did not want to hear that, so I agreed and had her heading to Freyja. I had heard she owns a powerful falcon feather cloak I hoped to get. So we agreed to meet back up in three days, at the predesignated point, which was at the Isle of Man just as your boat hits land. It has been five days and I have not heard nor seen anything from her. She was always able to handle herself so I am sure something has happened. I fear the worst for my dear wife and so turn to you all, my friends and neighbors, in the entire world of legends. I implore you all to help in my search, if anyone has seen or heard anything from my beloved please send word, I am not the wealthiest man in the world but I will give my word that if anyone can assist in the safe return of my wife I will vow you a debt in which you will surely get paid back in full for your efforts. Thank you all for your time and I pray for your success and her safe return. Sincerely, Master Asterix Konstantine of Gaul =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Untitled by Falcos "A long time ago, two mages went to war. However, they both knew that the other one was too powerful to face directly, so they decided to raise armies. Adults were too weak-minded, they could only be trained as fighters, and the fighters were easily picked off by the other mage from a distance. So, the mages both independently decided to train children as mage-soldiers. They taught hundreds and hundreds of children, and taught them to hate the enemy above all else. Years later, when the children were approaching adulthood and their magic was at its peak, they marched. Both armies clashed in a desert, and spells were thrown with abandon. However, no body was meant to contain as much magic as the children had running through their bodies. One by one, they went insane from it. As the war waged on, both commanders were eventually killed, and it was just the children left, killing each other, or going mad and letting their magic run haywire. Every time one died, the magic left in their body would congeal into a liquid-like substance and gather with all the others. Eventually, there was just one child left, gone completely insane, but had used enough of his magic that he was lucid. Realizing what had happened, he looked around, and saw what looked like a pool of shimmering water. Not wanting to live with himself after what he had helped do, he jumped into it, his body dissolving into the magic. The magic then reconstituted his body, and created a mind for itself. A young-looking but immortal construct of magic stepped out of it: Falcos. Many many years later, Falcos got married to a young adventurer named Utevo after realizing that he wanted to pretend to be a human for a while. While they did live in happiness for a short while, a succubus named Naamah drove a wedge between them, and eventually convinced Falcos to kill Utevo. The stipulation Falcos made to this was that Naamah couldn't destroy or consume Utevo's soul, but would keep it in one piece. Naamah currently wears is around her neck." =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Lakeside Redemption Nadia woke, lying on the grassy shores of a crystal lake. Her mind was cloudy, her gaze unable to focus. It was bright, too bright for Dis. Yes, the city of Hell had light, from the fire, but this was too... pure. After several moments, Nadia struggled to her feet, her muscles and joints buckling under her weight. She was flesh and blood again; not a wisp of a soul. Looking around, she spotted a familiar figure and moved as swiftly as her limbs would allow. 'Nice view, isn't it?' Lethe said, smiling faintly at Nadia. The witch could only nod, unable to look away from the man before her. 'We're currently standing on my personal imaging of a place between planes,' Lethe explained to her. 'Somewhere peaceful. I daresay you could use it.' Nadia nodded, as her body ached, and she felt exhausted, mentally, physically, and emotionally. 'You told me you were gone for good,' she said after a bit, her mind still a bit foggy. Smirking, Lethe shrugged. 'I lied,' he said simply. 'Your body is being reconstructed as we speak. When we are done here, you will walk out of your tomb, alive once again.' Tilting her head and frowning at Lethe, Nadia said, 'How? None of the terms were met. Raz, Caden and Jaina, they're all...' Her eyes widened. 'Lethe, what did you do?' Ignoring Nadia's questions, Lethe continued to speak. 'When you walk the material plane again, you will retain no memories of your torment.' Nadia's breath caught in her throat. Oh, God, the torments she'd endured in the fiery city.'You will know only that you were there. Those memories are too much for a mortal to bear.' The witch reached for Lethe's hand. 'Lethe...' He merely looked out over the water. 'This will be the last time that I can save you, Nadia,' he said quietly. 'Do not waste it. You have a priceless chance to correct your mistakes.' She nodded, taking a step closer to Lethe. 'I won't Lethe, I promise,' she whispered, tears welling in her eyes, a few slipping free to trail down her cheeks. 'You'll be there, yes? With the rest?' She squeezed his hand, silently begging for that reassurance. Lethe just smiled that infuriating smile of his. 'My path, as always, remains a mystery. Know that I love you, and I will always be with you.' Nadia slipped her arms around the man, hugging him, crying against his chest. 'Of course you will,' she whimpered. 'Thank you, Lethe. Thank you so very much.' 'My son has taken up his father's banner,' Lethe said. 'Guide him. He will need your wisdom.' The witch nodded, mumbling her promises, still clinging to Lethe. 'I have to go now,' he said, patting her hand. 'Be strong, Nadia.' Taking a step back, Nadia nodded again. 'I will, Lethe,' she sniffled, wiping tears from her eyes and cheeks. 'Thank you.' Then Lethe spread his arms out, tilting his head back, a slight smile on his face. The ground rumbled, and he vanished in a plume of fire, claimed by his fate. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Fire Albina found her lover standing under a tree near his home. As she approached, he smiled at her, the expression gentle, nothing like his normal smiles. She stopped about a foot from Lethe, returning the smile. 'What mischief have you got yourself into now?' 'The significant kind,' Lethe said. 'I've outdone myself again.' Albina smirked at him. 'It is amusing, how you always one-up yourself, Lethe,' she said, though her thoughts were very different. 'Will you elaborate, or is it meant to be a surprise?' Lethe looked away, pained. 'Our time together is coming to a close,' he said quietly. Albina's smile faded and she closed her eyes. Of course, she thought. I should have known this was to happen. Damn him, damn him and damn Oblivion. She took a deep breath and said, 'For two such as us, it was far too short.' Opening her eyes, Albina looked at Lethe, trying to mask the pain, mask every bit of emotion except what he needed from her. She had never broke before, she would not break now. 'I'm sorry to have caused you this pain,' he said. 'This... isn't the way that I wanted things to go, but they rarely work out that way. Chuckling softly, the Seer said, 'The pain will remind me of the good we had. And have. I trust that I will still have our son.' Don't let this ruin Caden. He's so young, still without baggage. The man finally looked back to Albina. 'I'm afraid today is only the beginning, Albina. Caden will need your guidance.' Reassure me. Don't take our son. 'I suspected,' she said. 'I see glimpses in his future, mostly through the daughter.' 'He is not ready for what will happen,' Lethe said to her. 'He will know pain.' No. Don't do this. Don't leave, don't force Caden to grow up. 'And he will need you to help him use that pain to make him stronger.' Pain doesn't always make one stronger, Lethe Aurion. 'I will advise and help him, yes,' Albina said. 'He is my son and mothers have been known to meddle. I learned my lesson with Blackthorne; Caden will have my help and love through his trials.' Suddenly crimson flames appeared around Lethe's hand, slowly making their way up his arm. 'My time is almost up.' Albina raised an eyebrow. 'So I see,' she said, watching the fire for a moment longer. 'Hellfire?' she asked, her tone breaking into sorrow. 'Oh, Lethe Aurion...' Yet she smiled at him, his sacrifice so great. 'I'll miss you.' Lethe stared at his arm as it was engulfed in flames. 'I know,' he said. 'I'm sorry, for this, and everything else.' 'Don't apologise, you always have done what you know to be best,' Albina assured him. She took a step closer, ignoring the flames. 'I do not fear your fire, Lethe Aurion.' Her voice broke and tears streamed down her cheeks. 'For all the love you claim to have, kiss me.' Lethe looked at Albina and closed the gap. 'I do love you,' he said. 'Remember that always.' They kissed, then, both desperate and crying. She tried to cling to him, give him hope, anything. She sent out wave after wave of magic, hoping to tide him over from whatever Hell he was about to endure. Then it was over. He was gripping her face now, his hands burning. She didn't feel pain, though. The Seer was too sad to feel such a meaningless thing. 'Do not forget your humanity,' he said, his eyes glowing with fire. 'Only that can save you from me.' She covered his hands with her own. 'I won't forget, Lethe Aurion,' she wept. 'I will do as you ask, for you and for our son.' Stepping back, Lethe looked up and shouted in pain as he vanished in a pillar of fire. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Legendary Times is published by the immortals of LegendMUD.
