New Ways to Play With all the recent talk about what to do once you reach level 50 and start racking up redeem points and the different ways people use and want to use channels and approach RP, I thought it might be interesting to explore some different ways to play the game that might not be so obvious. The simplest approaches to playing muds are often the easiest routes to max-min your reward/cost&risk ratios. This is where you go out and just mindlessly plow through everything that moves. This is easy, this is relatively safe if you know that what you target won't hurt you back. LegendMUD is played by different people on many different levels. Many people take more complex approaches but basically similar to the one above. Others approach LegendMUD as a challenge to their roleplaying skills. There's no WRONG way to play LegendMUD as long as you have fun. So what are some challenges that you can set up for yourself that might be entertaining and provide you with a sense of accomplishment? o Set out to do what other players claim is the impossible. Or at least have fun trying. o Equip yourself entirely from the area that matches your RP or hometown. No strings. o Play with your first stat roll. Don't do any stat quests. o Approach it like a tourist, see the sights everywhere. Wander through the playhouses and museums and castles, listen to the stories. o See what the minimum number of practices you can spend is. Variation: see how many "useless" skills you can pick up and then do something with them. o Be able to type WHO and have each person know something about you. o See how many people you can get to ask you just WHAT that thing you keep saying is... or just WHAT that string is... o Insist on eating proper food. o See how long can you can really go without using a chalice. o Have a party with food and drink items collected from the game. o Play and perfect an atypical pkill character. Be accept all asap. o See how many whois strings you can rack up in a given time period. o Ask people if they need you to run errands for them, to make money. o See how long you can go without the aid of magic in any form. o See how many colored items you can get without colored strings. o Don't kill the same thing twice in a row. Or even the same day. o Aim for either -1000 or +1000 alignment and only kill accordingly. o Don't rent in the same inn twice in a week. o See if you can find a whois string no one else has. o See if you can keep a perfect 0 alignment. o Collect a unique item from each area listed in areas or areainfo. o Pick your favorite room description in each area listed. o Set up a scavenger hunt for other players o Be able to type WHO and know something about each person. o Choose and take over a clan you see as dead. Make something of it. o Get to know an area so well that you can mail the builder a list of improvements that do not involve stat items. o Find the five best weapons for each stat type. Use #5 for your proficiency. o Use resistances and tools to defeat your foes! o Approach a newbie completely IC and see if you can get him to RP along with you rather than beg for stuff. o Create your own ascii art stationery in full color and on a funky paper type o Collect up a few 'signature' items to hand out to people you pass. Brochures, candies, flowers.... Many of the | | random actions were expanded upon, so the mobs don't always |__| spam the same thing. Non-skill fights acts should be a bit /\ more random in the damage they do. The atmosphere of the / \ forest should feel more like a forest. Also, a couple of other problems with how Will | | was determining how much you owed were fixed. Robin and the |__| sheriff can no longer be killed instantly or with one shot. /\ You can now play darts in the Salutation Inn. The fauna / \ should be more local. It was fun setting up and running it. The archery tourney was a blast with Kaige's new code. The first round was held with the target at ten paces. First Place: Kir Second Place: McDougan Third Place: Wes The second round was held with the target at fifty paces and ended up in a shoot-out between Kir and Sphinx for first place after they both shot two perfect bullseyes. First Place: Kir Second Place: Sphinx Third Place: Switch The 3rd and final round moved the target to 100 paces and ended in a three way tie! I have been asked to contribute to my life story and I shall attempt to do so, as far as I recall. For unknown aeons, I was trapped within the asura's shadow, a dark and nasty place. However, luckily, in order to keep a Sir McDougan's soul from being taken by Slytherin, and in an exchange intended to release the Lady Masha's soul, I was summoned from the shadow. I was placed into McDougan's body, thus sending him into my former imprisonment temporarily. Slytherin proceeded to steal my soul, but, as soon as Masha was more or less saved. (Sadly, it was not completely effective.) McDougan was returned to the asura, and by breaking the asura, I was returned to McDougan's body. A foul-tempered and somewhat disagreeable fellow, I have learned through an argument with him there, but he indeed turned out to be nicer than I had been given the impression at that time. Anyway, as Slytherin attempted to turn all against me by claiming me to indeed be a demon, McDougan defended me, and eventually, it was arranged that I should take the body of William of the Wulf, a dead clanmate of Edric's. But, indeed, the darkness I was temporarily sent to frightened me too greatly, and though the angel Edric had summoned assured me that heaven was heavenly, I desired to experience more of life after my internment in the asura's shadow. Finding a recently slaughtered knight in a place called Kleinstadt, I quickly entered his body. Meanwhile, Edric's attempts to put my soul in the body of William of the Wulf appears to have summoned the actual soul of William. Which is a happy boon indeed! Soon after, Masha was possessed by a demon, and Edric and I had to battle the demon, luckily, an event that was indeed successful, though, sadly, I fear from recent events that the part of her soul lost when the demon left was indeed a crucial bit that I must recover as soon as is possible. I shall attempt this task indeed! Otherwise, I am but a simple and ordinary squire. -Wilhelm, squire to Clan Wulf and member of the Institute. -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- -=- Editor's note: This particular incident has generated many accounts and declarations. A final perspective on this incident comes from Wilhelm. Accusations By Wilhelm, Wulfian Squire Allegations flew widely indeed against my liege, Edric of the Wulf. as the accusations from the Seven Circles of wulfpacking, Lying, and cheating mounted which none of the institute members could believe, tensions between the clans grew tighter, stretching - until they indeed snapped! As Marcel found himself unable to convince Emrysia to throw my liege, Edric, out of the clan, and I, in what I thought was merely a symbolic gesture, accepted him. As I proceeded to defend Edric to Marcel, Marcel requested me to come to the Moor Field, and indeed, there I went. As I waited for Marcel to speak, I found myself beset! Unprepared for any battle, I had no choice but to flee, being but a tender squire. I fled to Edric's room in the institute hall, and locked myself in. Edric then awoke. Dashiva appeared, and begin shouting for blood. Edric prepared himself for battle. The battle was a most difficult one, for Dashiva fled, only to return to fight again. Whilst I watched, Marcel appeared, and attacked me once more! I died, but returned to see Dashiva defeated, as Emrysia arrived and demanded to know what was occurring Marcel said he was teaching me manners (if attacking someone who comes under truce be manners), and threatened my life, as when Emrysia had entered, she had naturally locked the clan hall door, keeping Dashiva out. Edric went to let Dashiva in, and Dashiva accused him of killing him whilst link-dead, though indeed, there was no evidence that it was such that he could have known. Edric gave me his sword, and offered to allow Dashiva to attack him, but in a rare honorable act from the seven circles, he refused. As the Seven circles finally left, Edric offered to leave the institute, but Emrysia insisted he stay. This is where it stands of now, and, sadly, the institute's neutrality has been broken, and we find ourselves no longer able to help in pk, for enemies beset us, and we can no longer heal both sides, and so must heal none. If even lowly squires are unsafe, would the druids and surgeons be protected as well? Author's Addendum: It has come to my attention that Dashiva is not indeed of the Seven Circles, but in fact a Guardian of Justice!
