Quickly I dashed in, noted its apparent emptiness, slipped into a confessional booth, and pulled the curtain closed, hoping to remain hidden long enough to catch my breath and plan my next move. Next thing I knew this woman comes in to the adjacent booth, sits down, and starts giving me her confession ... what was I to do? .... Listen and mumble in the right places I guess .... ---- Father, forgive me for I have sinned. This matter weighs heavily upon my conscience, and I seek absolution. I heard some evil rumours concerning a man of God, rumours I could scarce comprehend. They said he hoarded the donations for his own personal gain, and that he had ensorcelled an object used in holy communion so that it vanished if one did not know the spells to maintain its evil state, and worst of all ... that he was a teacher of various magics to witches and others of evil nature. I did not know what to do. Should I, as a good Christian, turn him in to the Inquisition? I was fearful of doing so, for they have the fierce reputation of never investigating the innocent, and all I had heard were rumours of evils, I had no proof. On the other hand, if I did not report him, and it became known that I was aware of the rumours, I could be under investigation. I sought out the wisdom of another man of God, known for his efforts in converting the pagans. Sir Tancred was much troubled by my concerns, and muttered of dark rumours he had heard about the Benedictines. Sir Tancred told me that indeed this matter bore investigation, although he was inclined to dismiss the rumours of teaching witches as a misunderstanding. Possibly, he explained, the man was simply trying to convert them to the Way of the Lord. Much reassured that the matter was in competent hands, I retired to an inn to recover from the shock of having heard such evil things said of a man of the cloth. It was only when I was fully rested, that I realised I had mentioned neither the name or the location of this priest. Wise and learned he may be, but surely he could not know which of the many priests I was referring to. I looked for Sir Tancred to further inform him, but in vain. He must have been in some distant realm converting heathens. I was in a quandary. What to do? All I needed was a key, then I could investigate this matter of profaning a Holy Communion item on my own. If I only had some proof for myself ... I could then go to the Office of the Inquisition, and report the gossip I had heard, with no fear I was condemning an innocent man. I decided to seek the aid of a man who seemed comfortable with evil magics (although the Lord had sent an angel to assist him ... I am puzzled as to why), but he demanded a heavy price. He wanted any loot we may find in our search for the key. This money (if it indeed existed) was no doubt the donations made to the Abbey to assist in it's many good works. How could I employ someone who would take from the poor in this manner? But I did, Father. I have indeed sinned. Regretfully, in the course of our enquiries, the priest died. I had started the chain of events that led to the death of a servant of our Lord. At first the evidence seemed to back up the stories. There was indeed a considerable sum of money that was not properly in the care of the Almoner. It looked like the gossip had been right in part. I acquired the key I sought, but there was no communion chalice. I pondered the multitude of possibilities. Was the second part of the gossip true? Had it indeed vanished due to dark enchantments? Was someone else investigating these rumours and had taken the same line of reasoning and steps that I had? Was it possible the gossip I had heard was misinformation, and this key did not give access to the Communion cup I had heard of? Or horrifying thought, had I just contributed to the death of an innocent man of God? Mayhap he had recently sold the chalice to fund further good works, perhaps to replace it with one of lesser value in the eyes of man, but as sacred in the eyes of God, this would explain both the money and the absence of the chalice. I prostrated myself before the altar for hours, considering this matter, Father. Until I saw your confessional curtain was closed, indicating your presence. Father, have I done the right thing, what shall I do? What is my penance for my sins? --- She was crying at this point. The poor kid ... she was clearly hooked on this religion thing and hung up with guilt... what was I to do? I'm no churchman, and this was the first time since I was a kid that I'd been near a church (well apart from that time I stole some silverware). If I didn't do something though, she was going to wonder why I didn't answer ... and that could be risky for a man on the run. Thinking fast, I spun some story about her doing the Lord's work, why else would an angel have been present, blessed her, told her no penance was required, and suggested she go get a good night sleep (she sounded young and had a sweet voice, and naturally, I pondered the tempting possibilities -- but decided she was probably too innocent for my tastes). Perhaps she could seek further assistance from this Tancred guy if she was really worried, since he seemed reliably informed. After the years I've spent conning people, convincing this innocent was a piece of cake. When she was gone, I slipped out the back way and hightailed it out of the area as fast as I could. If there was a dead body about, and a priest's at that, I wasn't going to get caught anywhere near it, no sirree, not with my record. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Dias-jax's Quest Dias-jax was born deep within the lands of Skatha, the true home of the fey creatures. The 3 evil demon kings were born of magic gone awry, magic that brought forth creatures such as Erin the hound master, the hounds of Cullen and Cuchullain. He was raised as all the fey who remained in the Land of Skatha, to fight and kill, to do it effectively and to do it consistently. After years of oppression, he finally stood up to the evil that had taken his homeland. He was allowed to keep his life, he was well-trained and they hoped he would one day see things the way they did. And so instead of being killed, Dias was outcast into the land of mortals. That day he made a vow to return to the lands of his birth and destroy the evil rooted deep within. He seeks the Dagger of the Sun, which is created only once per year on December 25th in the ancient mortal lands of Mexico. With this power, he believes he will be able to destroy the evil which has taken his home and his life from him and return the fey creatures to their rightful home. Upon being thrown from the lands of Skatha, Dias was presented with a dagger called Nightfang, a dagger based after Skatha's own Gae-Bolg. Its evil is obvious, the dagger pulsates with it. The dagger constantly pulls at him, causing him to kill those who are innocent, bringing out the true evil in him which the Demon Kings wanted in the first place.
