There's only a little over a week left of this year's Summer Odyssey.
As we're winding up this year's events, please keep in mind that the
builders welcome your ideas and comments throughout the year, so as
you explore, please tell the builders about the things you find that
you like as well as the things that bother and annoy you. 

This goes for code changes and other scheduled events as well. If you
sit back and take the things you like and appreciate for granted, we
won't know what type of things you like and appreciate or even miss
when they're not done for a while. So positive feedback is just as
necessary as negative comments, even if it's not as "fun to needle
the imms" with.

September 1st is the deadline for Immortal Applications. If you are
interested in applying to become an immortal, the next round of apps
will be in March. Be sure to speak to the appropriate department head
about your proposed project _before_ you submit your application.

Sunday, August 22nd! 3:00 in the afternoon! Bring nothing but your
sweet self and prepare to battle to the finish!

No need to sign up in advance, but please learn any skills you will
want before I do the copy at 2pm.

My guess is that most participants will be level 50 or thereabouts,
but if 5 or more people of level 40 or below want to participate, I'd
be happy to make a separate competition bracket for you. Bring your
friends! No PK experience required :)

Q: What about invis?
A: Oh right. Invis makes pk tourneys realllly boring. No casting
   invis.

Q: What about weapons? Mages can have weapons from spells. Combat is
too much based on specials if there are no weapons.

A: I've decided to include weapons, you're still naked if you have no eq
and a sword, after all :)

Q: What about snipers?
A: I have to draw the line at snipers. People can have one thing in the
<wield> slot, nothing else worn and nothing else in inventory.

Q: What about lights?
A: Lights will be provided.

   |  |     As part of the Summer Odyssey this year, the new
   |__|     materials added to the code a while ago are being used in
    /\      the areas. Many items are changing to meet the new
   /  \     materials spec. The material type of an item will limit
  /    \    the amount of AC the item can have and contribute to the
 /_    _\   amount of rent the item will cost. Some items will cost
   |  |     less rent, others will cost more. Items in playerfiles
   |  |     and housing have NOT been changed.

   |__|     The resistances code has also been changed to allow
    /\      builders to specify the percentage of benefit or
   /  \     disadvantage. Mobs are still being converted to the new

There are currently 19 RP clans and 3 PK clans. This leaves open
slots for ten (10) more clans to form. For more information, read

                           PK Runs

Runs are Difficult enough, Having Pkill characters on runs getting
attacked just makes them more difficult. Pkillers going on runs with
triggers are just askin for trouble.  When you dont have a mob
specified as a target with your triggers you more often then not goin
to hit a pkiller in the group and while its funny to the guy who
lives its not really all that fun for whomever lives.  Having to
re-enter into the area with agg mobs and such is a pain and as you
die 2 or 3 times from somebody making a little mistake its often not
very fun so if you must go on runs with triggs and your PK you should
prolly at least watch your screen :P

                            Asylum

As I looked out the frost tinted window of the cold asylum I thought
of my escape. I slowly glanced nearer to the cold metal door, sitting
up looking sideways through the thin steal bars I could still see the
enormous guard waiting just outside. I once again concentrated on the
outside, I had tried escaping twice before but I thought to myself
today it would happen today I would escape.

I struggled and freed myself from the terrible white prison of a
jacket they made us wear and hid near the doorway covered in a small
white sheet. I let out a loud shriek, as the guard looked up and
walked nearer to my room I began to grin and just waited. The guard
looked in the window realizing nobody was in there opened up the door
and saw me under the small sheet. I jumped up throwing the sheet over
his head. His loud screams were muffled by the sheet and he began to
fall as he hit the ground I had realized he was dead I snickered to
myself as I looked over his dead body.

I quickly grabbed his baton and walked down the dark grayed hallways
of the Asylum. I saw another guard, I quickly hid behind the wall as
he walked further in my direction. To his surprise I jumped out from
behind the wall and hit him in the face with the baton. I cackled
loudly throughout the halls as I beat him over and over again. I
started to run faster and faster through the halls i was almost
freed. I saw the the bright doors and the light shining through I was
almost there with the last of my energy i sprinted to the doors.

As I reached the glistening doors I slowed down to open them as my
hand touch the handle I felt a small sting in the back of my
neck....THUMP...I had blacked out.

I awoke to the screams of the terrible Asylum as i glanced about
nervously I realized that I was strapped to a chair and was being
watched by three terrifying guards. I let out a loud scream echoing
through the entire Asylum. I thought to myself with a grin on my face
next time... Next time I will be Free!

                  Dino's Autobiography, Chapter One

It was a beautiful March morning. The snow was still frosty and white
from a recent blizzard but today the sun had come out and the sky was
an incredible shade of light blue. I was born. Yeah, gross, huh? Well
I was the average kid. Kind of evil I might add. I enjoyed hitting my
uncle on the head with a rattle, pulling my aunts hair and earrings,
painting the living room with shaving cream (that was my favorite)
and bringing in mud pies and putting them on my parent's bed! It was
a wonderful childhood. One day when I was around 4 years of age, I
was taken away from my parents and put into a small cell in some
child prison. The doctors suspected my vicious behavior as a symptom
of rabies. My parents did put up quite a fuss when I was taken away
but nothing could get me out now. So I lived in this cell. Filthy.
Dusty. Dark. Murky. No windows. Nothing. Days were long. It was like
being in a coma. Nothing. Nobody. Rarely would I get fed, and when I
did on special occasions, it would only be some moldy bread on a tin
plate. I didn't eat that. I started to lose track of days, forget
what the outside looked like. Birds, people, trees. Well let me tell
you, sitting in a metal box for a really long time is not fun! I
started to develop this thing. My beautiful sparkling blue eyes
turned to an eerie crimson color. I craved blood since I wasn't fed.
If I were let out of my cell, anyone within eye distance would flee
with horrible bite marks all over! The doctors and workers decided to
put me into a part of the building called 'Intempesta Nox' for people
like me. I was happy there. Received food every day. Had a nicer
cell. I found out that I had lived in this prison for almost four
years. I was now eight years old.

One day, after a year of Intempesta Nox, as I was talking to a clan
member, a group of workers came into the cell and announced that
someone was here to see me. I was immediately put on chains and
walked to the lobby. The lobby was a large room with many pictures
and papers hanging on the wall. A large desk stood in the right
corner. There were many stacks of papers on it and a chair behind it.
There were two doors; one leading to the outside world and one
leading to the cells. In front of the desk stood a couch and a couple
of chairs. Behind the couch I noticed a man. He was pretty tall, dark
hair, sparkling blue eyes like I had a while ago, well built, fairly
strong, not too old but older then me, decent weapon and equipment to
go with it. He had a caring smile on his face. I knew him
immediately. From where? I don't know. When did I meet him? I also
don't know. Just somehow, he seemed very farmiliar to me. I
considered espcaping all the chains and guards but I wouldn't get far
so I just stood still. The guards removed my chains and left the
room. I guess that was a signal that I can start talking. I
approached him uneasily and cautiously.

'Who?' I said to him as I walked in circles around him.

'Jaenrik' He answered back, not scared at all!

'Purpose?' I questioned again.

'To get you back into the real world' He said. At this moment, it
seemed exactly like a fairy tale. Well not exactly but similar. The
girl was stuck somewhere, and someone came to rescue her. Except
usually the girl is a princess and is stuck in some tower and the
person who rescues her is a prince. I was definitely not a princess,
and I was definitely not stuck in a tower. And I'll tell you that the
person in front of me was definitely not a prince.

'Who?' I asked again with confusion.

'Sit' He ordered sternly. I sat down and waited for an explanation.

'I am Jaenrik. I am your father.' he told me. 'Five years ago you
were taken away from your mother and me and ever since, I have been
trying to find you and get you back.' This was hard to believe. It
took him five years?

'Well you found me.' I said with some attitude. I stood up and looked
at him. There was some family resemblance. 'Well you're my father.' I
stated. 'What of my mother?'

'I haven't heard from her since the day you were taken away.' He
said, obviously still disappointed. 'Well not exactly that day. I
woke up the next morning and she wasn't there. I searched the whole
house and she wasn't there. I searched parks and looked around the
house for any signs that might mean that she'll come back and I found
nothing.' He looked down at his feet and continued. 'I called the
police and some neighbors and they said that they haven't seen her.
That was five years ago.' Jaenrik looked up. 'I assume that she's not
coming back.' He sighed heavily. I was quite disappointed too.

'What do you think happened to her?' I asked curiously.

'I don't know and I don't wish to think about it.' He stated. I
wasn't exactly happy that he was here and I'm getting out. It was
pretty nice after I moved over to the Intempesta Nox group.

'Well I guess that we should get moving then, eh?' I said quietly.

'Well then.' He paused. 'Let's go.' He stood up and I stood up and we
were off.

                    The One Boy and the Kidnapper

Once apon a time, a boy woke up and like always put on his shoes and
all his clothes and one day he told his mom, "I'm going to go to pick
some strawberries" and his mom said, "Ok". So the boy went outside
and was picking strawberries and a guy drove by and said, "Come get
in the car I'll show you where to pick some real strawberries." So
the boy got in the car, but the boy didn;t know the man was a
kidnapper. The man took the boy to his house and threw him down in
his basement with no food or water. He was down there for several
days until his mom got really worried and called the police. The
police came and the mom told them everything and they put out a
search warrant on the boy. After they looked for a few days they gave
up. The boy was really scared and it was a good thing he knew how to
pick locks and at night time the boy picked the lock very carefuly
and escaped. He ran to the police and told them, "There is a very bad
person who lives down the road at the cemetery and the police went
and checked and they found the man after searching his house -- he
was hiding in a hole in his wall. The boy got taken back home to his
mother and his mother always watched when he got strawberries.
