Today wraps up our trek through the Medieval era. We have two final
events scheduled for today before we move on to industrial. The
Medieval Trivial Challenge will begin at 3pm system time and the
Gathering of Warlords PK Tourney for pure fighter types -- no chant
or augment -- come join us at 5pm on port 3333!

Tomorrow kicks off the final leg of this year's Summer Odyssey! We've
got more games, and hopefully some articles and plenty of updates
planned to showcase the medieval era this month.

The old stuck-in-the-order-that-Ptah-thought-of-things prompt is
history. You can now set up your own prompt in any order, and pretty
much any fasion you wish. You can include any tags or other arbitary
text that you want as well as using the codes below to display a
number of character specific values.

So if you just wanted a simple prompt or that displayed only your hit
points and max hit points, you could do this:

     PROMPT FORMAT [@h/@H]>

Your prompt would look like this:
     [252/312]>

HELP PROMPT explains how to do this, and it's a big long and
intimidating. However, it LOOKS worse than it is once you realize
what's going on. Once you've got the idea HELP PROMPT CODES serves as
a quick reference card for what code to use to get what value
displayed.

To get you started if you haven't already played with it, there are
some examples below to give you some ideas. You can also check to see
who may be sharing their formats online with PROMPT PREVIEW
<person> and use PROMPT ACQUIRE <person> to copy the raw
code from their character to yours. PROMPT SHOW will display your raw
codes so that you can copy and paste from one of your characters to
another or just make it easier to add/remove or change something.

You can also change the way your GROUP command displays as well. It
uses slightly different codes, but the idea is the same using the
GROUPFORMAT command.

* Afk status and short name are new, as are percentage displays. Short
name truncates to 14 characters and long name is the old 30 characters.

Another new command is SHOWGROUP. This command does variations on the
GROUP command with no arguments.  To use it, you can specify full
names of people in the group. If you do this, ONLY those group
members will show up. If you are in Fred's group with Bob and John,
and you issue the following command:

     SHOWGROUP fred john

Your display will look like this:

     Fred's group:
      [50] Fred         387/392 hp  252/259 mana 600/624 move
      [49] John         225/290 hp  212/290 mana 411/443 mana

Group display will continue to put ()'s around players that aren't in
the room.

Once you have your prompt and cprompt and group set up how you like,
type:
     CONFIG shareformats

This toggles the ability for others to view your raw codes and ACQUIRE
them for their own use.

                  Spell Caster Tourney Results

Last week's Spellcaster Spectacular brought wit and wizardry to
center stage today as Brutus triumphed over the competition!

In the first round, young Merlock bravely fought Bacchanal but lost.
Dharma triumphed over Saga, Brutus beat Mercedes, Benjamin won his
battle with Neptune, and Aisha beat Cypri.

Five people remained at the beginning of round 1: Bacchanal, Brutus,
Benjamin, Aisha, and Dharma. Dharma had a BYE due ot un-even numbers,
Brutus beat Bacchanal and Aisha beat Benjamin.

This left three people for the final round, to be fought round-robin
double-elimination style between Brutus, Dharma, and Aisha. Brutus
beat Dharma, Dharma beat Aisha, and Brutus eliminated first Aisha and
then Dharma to take the title.

               Congratulations all! Bravely fought!

                         A New Venture
 
Briarwen nervously gave a tug to her blouse as she approached the
large iron gate of Carian Trag. She stopped a moment to smooth her
skirt, as well. Meeting Royalty to talk business was intimidating,
even to a girl as brash as Briarwen.

As she crossed the drawbridge, she couldn't help but give a wink to
the guards on duty, who grinned lewdly back at her. She stopped to
flirt for a moment with a particularly handsome one, before
announcing that she had an appointment with the Queen.

The guards clambered over each other to be chosen to accompany her
into the great hall, until finally, the Captain on duty announced
that HE would escort Briarwen. She just smiled smugly to herself and
thought to how well this was going to work out.

Briarwen laughed and winked as the Captain held open the door for her
and surreptitiously pinched her as she walked by. 'Yes, indeed.' she
though, 'this could be VERY lucrative.'

The captain announced her arrival as she entered the Great Hall.
Briarwen found this a bit intimidating, but was doing her best not to
show it, so she winked at the soldiers again and put a little extra
wiggle into her walk as she sauntered past him towards the thrones at
the other end of the room.

Court etiquette not being a part of her upbringing, she wasn't quite
sure what to do when she reached the foot of the throne. After a
moments hesitation, she decided a curtsey probably wouldn't be a bad
idea, and so did her best imitation of one. It might be noted, that
the young guard standing in the doorway behind her needed all his
self control not to let his eyes bug out of his head or emit a low
whistle as she did so.

'Briarwen!' Queen MoiraGwyn greeted her, 'How nice of you to come
visit!' The Queen's smile seemed genuine, but Briarwen rarely trusted
a female who seemed glad to see her. Most of them were too worried
about their husband's reactions to her.

Briarwen returned the smile. 'You have a lovely castle,' she said.

'Thank you.' MoiraGwyn beamed at the room about her. It was obvious
she had spent many hours decorating the castle to make it not just a
castle but a home. Even though Briarwen had never really had a home
like that, she could recognize there was more in MoiraGwyn's pride in
her home than just, well, pride. She didn't know what it was, though
to the rest of us it would be fairly obvious that the element she
couldn't recognize was love.

Feeling these niceties really were not getting her very far, Briarwen
decided to get down to business. ' Yes, it really is a lovely castle.
But you're probably wondering what brought me here today...' Briarwen
pause to throw in her most charming, non-seductive smile, ' You see,
I've noticed you've gotten quite a number of guards working for you
now. And it strikes me, that they need some.. entertainment in their
off hours, no? To keep them out of trouble? So they don't go
bothering the locals...'

Looking worried, Queen MoiraGwyn asked, 'What type of um...
"entertainment" are you thinking they might need?' Queen MoiraGwyn
was quietly fearing the woman was trying to turn them into a brothel.

Briarwen smiled sweetly at the Queen. 'A tavern... a place where they
could relax, buy a drink, maybe a few performers could be performing
some music? You see, this way, they don't have to leave the castle to
get a drink, nor will they annoy the locals if they happen to drink a
little too much.' Briarwen tried to smile convincingly at the Queen.

Still looking a bit worried but, not as worried as she was, the Queen
answered 'I am concerned about them drinking whilst on duty... but...
a place for them to gather that is open to outsiders but yet still
near the castle...' She seemed to ponder it for a moment.

'Of course not while on duty, but, the point is to have it within the
castle, so they don't annoy the locals. I do hate to tell tales, but
there have been rumours about the guards behaviour while they are off
duty. I'm really just trying to help you out, while making a little
honest money myself.'

Queen MoiraGwyn looked rather dubious and couldn't even recall the
last time a guard was even OUT of the castle... 'Perhaps I should
speak with Emrysia or try and reach Rowane before deciding. I'll get
back to you with an answer in the near future.'

Briarwen smiled her friendliest smile and mentally cursed the fact
that the ruler of this kingdom was female. 'Really, it wouldn't be a
problem, we could set strict hours of business, and of course any on
duty guard caught on the premises would be severly punished, and if
you're worried about my personal influence on the men here, I'm truly
just trying to make an honest living. Surely you wouldn't deny me
that? Wouldn't you like to be the one responsible for helping me turn
over a new leaf?'

The Queen was obviously still not convinced, but her resolve seemed
to be weakening, so Briarwen continued, ' I really do want to get out
of my currrent occupation, maybe settle down.. But really, the only
things I know are men and drinks.' Briarwen put on what she hoped was
a suitably convincing look of sincerity and added, ' So you see, this
really would be the perfect solution and beneficial for both of us.
Besides... think of all the taxes!'

MoiraGwyn bit her lip. A thoughtful expression playing on her brows.
'Let me think about it, and I will let you know,' she finally said to
the barmaid.

Briarwen sensed it was time to let it be and not push her luck. She'd
done her best to convince the Queen of the validity of the idea and
only time would tell.

After Briarwen had left and she was back in the comfort of her
chambers, MoiraGwyn pondered back to conversations with Sister
Trinity about Briarwen. The dear sister seems to feel there was much
hope for the girl and that perhaps all that was needed was some
guidance. But this one was far from a small child to take in, and her
lucrative past was made off of skills she wasnt all too sure she
wanted in the castle. As well Emrysia would pitch a fit, that this
person, known for seducing men, was in her home... Had she not
already entered into an uncomfortable room with her and Robar before?
Hmm... maybe the best place for this one WOULD be keeping an eye on
her. And in this case, Emrysia would agree. As well anything that did
happen could be carefully monitored. A small entertainment facility
near the gates... Fingers rested at her temples, she was getting a
headache from the mere thought of this all. Where was Rowane when she
needed him... Ok, a small building and we'd see what happens.

I mean really, what was the worst that could happen...?
