The first thing that might strike you about the Bahan Sopeh is their strange name. Judah explained, 'It is actually two Hebrew words that have very similar meanings. Bahan is "Watchtower" and Sopeh is "Watchman". Trained as Rune Knights, Judah and his comrade Keith ventured out into the world to form an association which would watch over Legend and its inhabitants. Together with Haley, Gorgan, and Camaris, they founded an elite group is devoted to the assistance of any who may need them. []-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[] A Few Words on the Importance of Manners, by Nadya LaRue As you may or may not know, I am a woman of excellent breeding and upbringing. I know when to ask after a woman's health and when not to ask after her husband's. I know which fork goes where on the place setting for a proper dinner party. I realize that navy blue and black are truly not the same and cannot be worn simultaneously. I know that there are appropriate times for salacious gossip and there are not. And although good manners may not be the current fashion, I still maintain that they are of the utmost importance. Flattery will get you everywhere, darling, just remember that! But how did I ever become such a paragon of good manners and breeding? I am often asked this question, and I must give all the credit to my dear, dear parents. One just does not enter the world with such instincts, these are learned traits. My mother was a lovely Russian woman who moved to Paris at a young age to begin a career as a fashion model and a society mademoiselle. Mother ran away from home, tired of terrible vodka and oppressive conditions. Good things come to those who work, she always said, and she had to work terribly hard! Mother studied French by the moonlight and became very proficient in the language. She lived in a tiny apartment upstairs from a bookstore, an apartment that truly lacked the basics in human comfort. Mother loved Paris despite her living conditions and thrived in the shadow of the Tour Eiffel and on the sidewalks of the Champs Elysees. Unfortunately, Mother couldn't find work in Paris as a fashion model right away, and had to settle for a string of jobs in seedy bistros and houses of ill repute. My mother worked for a certain famous Paris madam before she met my father, a wealthy Parisian doctor. Dr. LaRue, my father, was a member of the upper crust of Parisian society and was able to give my mother the friends and acquaintances she needed to fulfill her dreams. It was apparently love at first sight, and he insisted that she leave her madam's business and come to live with him in a stylish flat off the left side of the bank. Soon after they met, my mother was dressed to the nines in Chanel and diamonds, and loving it. Mother's career as a fashion template was cut rather short with my birth, and the subsequent birth of my three brothers, but she still stayed very active in Paris society. Madame LaRue was the very paragon of virtue and manners, and she advised many of her society lady-friends in this area. Father saw, however, that she was restless with life at home and suggested that the couple invest their considerable assets into founding a finishing school. The famous LaRue Finishing School opened its doors that very same year. For the next twenty years, students came from all over Europe to learn how to be proper members of high society. I was a student of my mother's finishing school, along with the finest in European society. We learned how to dance all the latest dances, how to dress properly, and how to conduct ourselves at proper social gatherings. These were all very useful lessons, and I thank my mother for teaching me so well. But I, unlike many of my classmates, yearned to be more than a pretty face and elegant dancer. I wanted to learn my father's profession, so I went from finishing school to La Sorbonne to study medicine, literature, and whatever I could. I am now an accomplished surgeon, as you know, and a sometime journalist to boot. []-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[] A few unsigned pieces of verse were found in the ruins of a cathedral near London recently. The Lament Now closed are the doors to the cathedral grand, One by the altar waits, silver blade in gloved hand, One by the altar kneels, fire pillar by him stand. One on the floor screaming, one by the door weeping, Full moon in starless night, and shadows creeping, And one on altar stretched, chest bared, sleeping. Blood red moon rides a starless night sky overhead, A woman's voice cries out, screaming in mortal dread, The demons grovel nearby, their hunger soon to be fed. 'This cannot be!', a challenger springs to her feet, 'This blade must not that poor child's heart meet!', Defeated, she takes flight on sandals ever fleet. Fire forged steel touches flesh amidst the screaming, The demons and the imps and the spirits keening, And the wheels of balance madly keeling. Should you meet the boy in the streets now wailing, Take kindly to him in your traveler's hailing, Across the sea of death his mind is now sailing. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Legendary Times is published by the immortals of LegendMUD.
