We hope all our U.S. players are having a great holiday weekend! And of
course we hope everyone else is having a great weekend too! The end of
Summer is officially here. School is back in session and a lot of people
are finding their schedules once again shifting.

This weekend also wraps up our 2003 Summer Odyssey. The builders were
able to mark off 1723 entries from their todo list! It might not seem
like much, but the list is long and some entries are more complicated
than others. Every installed area got touched this summer in one way or
another - all in all a great effort from the building department!

Again, we hope that everyone has enjoyed the Summer Odyssey and you all
have been having fun exploring the changes and will keep the ideas coming
all year!

In this issue, I was also requested to include some info on various
boards that are available to players in the game. So here's a quickie

                      Washed Up Losers Disband

On Friday, August 22, the Washed Up Losers Clan was disbanded for low
membership.

There are currently 21 RP clans and 3 PK clan. This leaves open slots for
eight (8) more clans to form. For more information, read HELP CLAN and see
the clan information list via the CLANS command while logged into the

The Prophets have remained the clan with the most active members in pkill
over the last two weeks. The Grendels and the Infernals are the clans
with the next most active members involved in pkill. The Knight of Legend
and the Legend Armed Forces also had members active in pkill over the
last two weeks. Other clans respresented on the fields of battle
included: The Syndicate, Fields of Albion The Society of Allies, Seven
Circles, the Avengers, the Institute of Healing Arts, the Necromancers
and the Order of the Scroll.

In the past two weeks there were 46 pk-related deaths involving 48
different characters. Of those 48 characters, 19 of them were accept all
and 22 of them were PKE at the time. There were 13 pke vs pke battles
that ended in death. There are currently 56 PKE characters total. So come
on, let's get YOUR name up in lights! We can't report on it if you don't
tell us!

           The Story of a Yellow-eyed Mercenary and a Princess

Right before I actually had a chance to attack, I was dead. Jasra's final
breath is heard all around the world, thanks to an unseelie sidhe! Okay
so I entered a room I wasn't supposed to enter. Oh well. The problem is -
I can't get my stuff!

'Can someone help me?' I ask, loudly.

'Watcha need?' someone answers.

'My stuff?'

Anyway, this yellow-eyed mercenary comes to the rescue. A total stranger
but as desperate as I am... I don't bring it up. Once we get to the room
before it, the mercenary goes to the room the fight of the sidhes so I
can get my stuff. By the time he's done, well half done, he is almost
dead. So we wait a bit and he goes there again. While he's fighting for
his life, he says....

'Are you sure you died here?'

'Yes, why,' I say back.

'Well then you better let someone know because your corpse or stuff isn't
here!'

'WHAT?!?!' At this moment, I feel like I'm... nothing. I didn't die that
long ago for my stuff to disappear. Once again he doesn't finish the
sidhes.

'Where are you?' he asks me.

'Same place I was before,' I answer.

'You're not there, I went past the room where you died a million times and
you're not there. You must be invisible then. Say something.'

'Something,' I say, just like I was told to. Now I'm worried, my stuff
isn't there, and I can't move because I only have one way I can go and
that way is to the sidhes. Not a good way to go. After some long time, we
figured out that he was on the other side. Once we came together again, he
said to me that he has an idea.

'Do you have any scrolls or something in your corpse?' he asked me.

'Yes, I have 2 or 3 scrolls, the ones that recall you to the last inn you
visited.' I said to him.

'Okay, then here's the plan, I go and try to kill the sidhes, when I say
so, you come and get your stuff.' He exclaims. ' Drop one scroll in case
I can't get out, and use the other to get yourself out.' That sounded like
a good plan to me. But you had to work quickly. Once he leaves for the
sidhes...

'NOW,' he yells! I run down as quickly as I can, and get ready to get my
stuff.

'HURRY!' he yells loudly! Since I don't work well when I'm rushed, by the
time I got my things, he already killed the sidhes. Okay, I got all my
stuff and look into my bag to get the scrolls...

'Uh-oh' I whisper to myself, 'Oh no.'

'What?' he asks.

'My scrolls,' I whimper. I don't know why but I kind of felt like
laughing. He gives me a potion and tells me to quaff it - he can get out
by himself. I quaff the potion and appear in the Silver branch inn (to be
more specific - the reception). I feel like I just want to fall down and
just lie there - thankful to have my equipment back! I sit up and start
digging through my bag and my inventory to make sure that nobody took
anything in the last hour that we were working on this. Soon the
yellow-eyed mercenary arrives.

'How could I ever thank you,' I exclaim. After I ask that, I don't
exactly get an answer but the story continues about how a yellow-eyed
mercenary almost sacrificed himself for the princess of Amber!!!!

                         Wish You Were Here

*A faint sound of static, not unlike an untuned radio, gradually
increasing*

*A distant, raised voice just on the cusp of hearing, shouting in
frustration*

"-----l!... -a---l!... -ar--l!!..." *indecipherable angry murmuring, but
growing progressively louder* "-ar-el!! C-n you -loody well hear me!
MARCEL!!"

Good grief, itsss about time - my kneesss are killing me! Do you have any
idea how long I've been kneeling in thisss bloody pentagram? Not exactly
the easiest mode of communication isss it, you wouldn't believe how much
earwax it takesss to make just one dribbly candle, let alone five...
*grumble**mutter**curse* Ssstill, desperate timesss require desperate
measuresss - no postboxesss down here, and no candlesss...

*Flickering light swirls around whirlpool-like before expanding to
reveal... Black. Slimy black walls. Crusted black ceiling. Filth-strewn
black floor. The thick, iron bars are black, the hard wooden cot is black
and the disheveled figure kneeling in the middle of the cell is pretty
much entirely black.*

Ah, visualsss, lovely. Not bad for a first attempt... please do excuse my
current ssstate Marcel, it'sss been a trying couple of...

*he pauses to count figures, and glances over to a wall which is covered
in rows and rows of neat scratches*

...monthsss, yearsss? It'sss getting a little hard to keep track - I've
run out of wall ssspace. Anyway, I've run a little foul of the powersss
that be, here in Carian Trag. Sssome nonsense about a little money that
went missing, or sssomething like that. Total rot, anyway, and they've
kept me cooped up down here since. It'sss given me plenty of time to
think, and, ahhh, I've been wondering... well, if you might let me join
your errr... organisation... Now, now, don't look like that, don't be too
hasty

in making a decision. Think about what I might be able to offer first...
Collecting donationsss from all those sssinnersss out there isss a
ssspecialty of mine, and I'm sssure I could tithe a portion to help
maintain your earthly digsss. I've picked up a few ssskillsss in the art
of sssurgery over the yearsss, which might be of use to your mortal
minionsss, and I can even fight a bit if I'm pushed into a corner and
threatened with a ssstick (although in truth I'd rather run away).
Anyway, have a think about it, because GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE, oh
please excuse me that just ssslipped out, and, oh dammit I've knocked a

                    A Few Thoughts... And So On

Okay, so let's get inside my mind for a little while. Hello, I'm Duckon,
also known as Ducky. I go by both. Usually, I'm Ducky when I am weak and
pretty stupid looking. Anyway, though, let's get inside my head. I don't
know what I have become. All the fleeing is unnecessary if you ask me.
And all that magic crap... wow. Too much stuff to learn! So, maybe I'm
just lazy. Yeah?  Well, that cant be the case! I've been working out,
building up my strength. I figure after awhile a guy's gotta change his
fighting techniques the RIGHT way if he wants to win. I've been doing it
all wrong. I have tried six different times. And hopefully this will be
the last.

Okay, so let's get into the other side of my mind. Okay, so the other day
I took a little vacation. Yeah, well I sailed myself. All of a sudden I'm
at the end of the world and I crash!! Okay then I look up and I'm back to
normal again? Isn't that weird!?! Okay, so I continued my journey. And,
after a while I looked around... and .. and did not know where I was.
Well, I didn't want to feel like an idiot for not remembering my way
around the seas. I've sailed the seas since I was a wee, ladlike, little,
young, kiddy boy!  And not once did I get lost as I was saaiiilinng. So,
I just drifted around mile by mile. Ya know, something to do when you're
lost beyond your control... is playing dice with yourself!! Why I was
entertained for hours on end! Then I ran into a pirate, who after a few
games of armwrestling was kind enough to send me home. Isn't that great?
He sure was ugly though! My apolgies, my apoligies. I meant that in the
nicest way possible. Oh, of course I did!

Well, a little glimpse into my mind, into my life. I think that's enough
for one day. Any more will turn ya crazy!!

                     The Winds of the Past, part III

Jani brought Ransom up to the house and sat him at the head of the small
table. The food nearly filled the entire thing, and the smell was
something that made his mouth water. Kirva had prepared roasted mutton,
fresh corn and potatoes from the field, and a honey and cracked wheat
bread that he had smelled earlier.

Jani and Kirva asked many questions about how he was knighted, and about
who his knight had been, seeing as he had left with Sir Vhache, and
somehow ended up squired to a lady knight. Jani was particularly
interested in how he was trained, and how thouroughly, by the lady
knight, with a wink and a lecherous grin at Ransom. Ransom defended his
honor and that of the lady knight with adamant vigor and the large
red-head was forced to apologize by his wife with a threat that only
wives can make. The laughed that this caused lasted well into the
evening. Many passersby stopped in to see what was causing such
joviality, only to hug Ransom or thump him on the back in welcome home.
Stories were told, and more laughter ensued over times that Ransom had
been chased away from sisters by upset brothers, or times that Ransom had
been unwittingly been led to meet daughters by scheming mothers, and more
than a few times, both in the same day. Often during the evening Ransom
needed to wipe his eyes on his tunic to clear the tears that came from
laughing too much.

Early the next day, Ransom would begin his journey to Malta, and back to
his love, but tonight was a time of remembering simpler times. The winds
of the past blow swiftly by, and a chance to ride that wind, for even one
night, is to give the soul wings to fly, and with these wings, the
courage to look to the future.
